That's funny that @MrMeowgi mentioned Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. Not the absolute last movie I've seen but one of the most recent ones that turned out to be pretty good, "Searching". The main roles played by Debra Messing and John Cho, aka "Harold" from Harold and Kumar. He also played one of the two kids in the American Pie series always scoping out Stiffler's mom chanting "milf! milf! milf!".

Usually Cho plays a goofball but this was a serious drama and shot with a somewhat unique perspective. Almost the entire movie filmed as if watching through a laptop. Really well done and Cho played the serious side of a grief stricken father whose daughter goes missing.
I just watched Searching last night. I was looking through movies on demand and stumbled on to it. It was given good ratings so I decided to watch it and I’m glad I did. The whole movie is seen through laptops and stationary cameras basically which is different but great story that keeps you guessing. Really enjoyed it which is a rare occurrence lately. I’ve been looking through on demand and I watch trailers to decide if I want to watch it. Most times I quit halfway through cause it sucks but Searching was a good one.
Oh and if you haven’t seen it watch Mommy dead and Dearest. I love documentaries and this one is amazing. Craziest story you’ll ever see. You’ll spend two hours switching between “what the fuck” and “no fucking way”. Unbelievable story and proof that humans are the most ridiculous life form in the universe. I’ve recommended it to family and friends and they’ve all called after watching with the same reaction, WTF.

I don’t have Netflix so I haven’t seen that one. My niece has watched both and said the act was pretty accurate. I think it leaves out some things though. Mommy dead and dearest interviews all the major players, it’s pretty shocking seeing the girl’s transformation from what she was portraying to what she really is. Crazy crazy stuff

I think it's on Amazon Prime? I found another place to watch it, but I love the hell out of Netflix.

I go back n forth. Btween hulu n netflix. Usually net flix in summer. N hulu the rest of the time
I want Netflix, lots of good stuff especially Black Mirror. I was piggy backing on my brothers account until about six months ago. Then the s.o.b. had the unmitigated gall to cancel his subscription. I’m just kidding of course but it does suck. I have trouble justifying spending more money on television entertainment and I couldn’t give up Xfinity and I get Amazon for free. That’s due to a similar situation as I had with Netflix just piggybacking a different family members subscription. It’s hard living with only cable and prime. I have a hard time believing anyone has it harder then me. But don’t you guys feel sorry for me. I’m used to living with the bare minimum to stay alive. When I was a kid, cable was new and we had to wait almost two years for them to get the lines into my neighborhood. Most of my friends had it for a long time already which made it all the tougher to go to school and hear about all the excellent programming I was missing. So next time you are having a bad day just remember other people have it way worse, namely me. I don’t know how I survived it but I did and now I’ll survive life without Netflix. Hopefully my sarcasm came through load and clear. Now back to my 500 channels with nothing on.

You po baby.

I was still a kid changing channels by getting up off the couch, too. Cable came to my house when I was maybe 10? Our "remote" was a box with a really long cord. There was a knob that went back and forth on the thing, and when you went to a channel really fast it made a zipping sound LOL. We had way fewer channels than there were numbers on the thing. We was po.

Well I found a work around and managed to watch Mommy Dead and Dearest. If you can find a way to watch The Act, it's really quite close. I'm on the 4th episode of it til the next one airs. It's on a work around, too, but once I get past the initial pop ups (maybe 3), from there, it's all good.

I got rid of all movie channels a couple years ago, keeping basic for network stuff. Minimum package still has some decent channels like A&E, FX, TLC, etc... My only other pay site is Netflix, since I stopped hitting Redbox, too.

Oh man, yeah we didn't have one of those, unless we were visiting Dad. He had a beta with a remote. It also had a really long cord. My god, kids have no idea how we all suffered.

Used to have to go on the roof to turn the antenna. It was a 2 person job. 1 on the roof and 1 watching the tv till it was clear veiwing yelling to stop. Lol

LOL, yeah we tried the aluminum foil on the tv top antenna more times than I can count. It only seemed to do the trick while someone was actually holding it. Man, I don't miss that one bit.

You guys are bringing back the nightmares of my youth. Giant tin foil antenna attached to the rabbit ears. I have no idea how we survived those days with just three channels. It did make no remote easier though, it’s not like there was many options and a quick look at the TV guide so you didn’t have to channel surf on that tiny wave of choices.

When I was really little, I was the appointee in charge of continuously adjusting the vertical and horizontal hold buttons, and standing with my hand touching one or the other of the rabbit's "ears."

Gunsmoke on Saturday night, 6-year-old girl in the room with sleeping aunt, sleeping SNORING uncle, boisterous boy cousin, and boisterous boy cousin's best friend, oh yeah, I was happy all right, standing there. LOL

Fast forward seven or eight years, standing outside on a winter night, SNOW FALLING, I'm turning the pole on the TV antenna and listening for the bellow which any moment now will issue forth from my mother....THERE!....NO... TURN IT BACK!....WHOA HO HO...DON'T MOVE!!!...Meanwhile, I'm turning blue around the gills in my damn flannel PJs and no shoes. Oh and don't forget stepdad, asleep in the (MY) platform rocking chair, paperback book upside down on his belly...

If I could even have formed the thought in my head, I'd have threatened them with Child Protective Services. :giggle:

I'll have to keep it in mind, see if I can rent it or something. I've got slow ass internet so no streaming services, sometimes I get free hbo. I have netflix but the dvd mailers, not the streaming. I can actually see more movies mailing dvd's back and forth than if I had to download/stream them believe it or not. At first I thought it was "Mommie Dearest", the 1981 biography of Joan Crawford. Sounds interesting though, Mommy Dead and Dearest.

No not mommy dearest although both mothers treated their daughters like crap so the stories have similarities. Yea keep it in mind because it’s really an incredible story, definitely a must see. Especially if you love documentaries, this is a great one. Oh and I better not find any wire hangars in your closet, NO WIRE HANGARS!!!!!! If you think Joan Crawford treated her daughter poorly, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

Finally got to see Bohemian Rhapsody . I really liked it, I am really into ROCK history.

last night. AVENGERS INFINITY WARS . I almost hated it. these super hero movies are really worn out. no real plot, and they cover that up with destroying shit, endlessly. it did have some good subwoofer action though.

Same here. There WAS NO cable till a few years AFTER I grad from HS -- no PCs, either; they came out in '81, 2 yrs after i graduated. Here in Atlanta, we had the 3 channels, BUT! we also had channel 17, thx to Ted Turner, and also 36 and 46, local channels on the UHF.

I never saw a "remote" till I was about 23, and it had the long cord -- it was to an old top-load VCR.

We didn't even have touchtone phones till I was 9 yrs old; got a color TV when i was 7 -- couldn't afford one till my mom re-married, so until then, I'd pitch a fit to stay at my grandparents -- one of their older sons worked at Philco, so they had a color set pretty early.

And when I was in HS, if they caught you with a calculator, they confiscated it. You had to do arithmetic, and even algebra and geometry, ON PAPER. And show your work!

Love, Death & Robots on Netflix. It's a spiritual sequel of the cult classic Heavy Metal. Each episode is unique in story and graphic. Some even have much better CGI than Hollywood movies.

Not a movie, but grandsons have been here this weekend and one loves animal programs. Found "Animals and Cameras" on Netflix. I was very nearly immediately hooked. Kids sat quiet, glued to two consecutive episodes of it, and I swear I believe I could sit here and watch it all day.

Actually no. There were only a few Transformers in the whole movie. This is the origin story of Bumblebee. Some action. Quite a few funny moments. Nowhere near as dark and destructive as the other ones.

That for me is a difficult question. I watched a bit of Jesus Christ Vampire Killer this morning, oh about 5 minutes of it & then I clicked it off. It was ... well, ... if you like musicals, ... don't see this one. I cannot think of the last full movie I've watched. Been getting rather blah with movies. Everyone seems to be going back and rehashing what's been rehashed twice already. That could be good if there were some kind of original voice, maybe some new plotting, characterization. Unfortunately all these ships get no sails at all. It's just "look we're making mulch, over and over, and, ...".

This might be due in part to writer strikes. Heard of them coming sometime a few years ago. The writers are rightly frustrated over poor crediting, poor revenue, all in poor handling of material. There's also frustration in not being able to get through some blocks such as how to tell anything original beyond Tobias or Campbell? Then I'm sure there's some like me that get started writing a story & pause, ask "so what?" Then a story start gets tossed, writer doesn't care.

In movies & books it's the same. If writer/s can't care enough about a story to get past the "so what" question, they know readers or audiences will not buy the book, movie ticket, dvd, stream. Readers won't care either. This is the unwritten and unspoken contract between us, writers and readers / audiences. There needs to be concern, interest from both parties. If not the story doesn't well become a story. Yeah, been doing a lot of :deadhorse::deadhorse: of late.

Gradually trying to get by that. Takes longer now having aged and experienced much. Maybe I need to dump my cup out. But then it would still be the same cup to fill again. *sighs* No, nothing wrong with me, ... ♪♫♬ "Nothing wrong with me. Nothing wrong with me. Here we go!" ♪♫♬ I'm not giving any more, already slung too much.

Wondered about that. They rarely do, but I'll still watch it. LOVED the book.
They go as far as Tommy and Heather's divorce, the death of Vince's daughter, and the band reuniting after Corabi. There was a whole half a book they left hanging.
