I couldn't really find anything on this with the search engines, maybe I was not searching "correctly". Recently just received a collection of e-liquid, many bottles in various flavors & sizes. I noticed fruit flies/gnats in my room upon & more after receiving them(e-liquid). One time I even checked my rda and it had 2 little suckers dead on the cotton. Gross! Right? Has anyone experienced this?? If someone can share how they go about handling this sort of situation, that'd be appreciated. I know cleanliness is always good and I keep my room fairly clean... but anyone have any specific suggestions/thoughts on this matter?

I've seen a few fruit flies here n there. I keep all my bottles with the caps on. I cover all my drip tips with those silicon sleeves some coils come in.

That is not a fruit fly.
But a filth fly, warm bleach in the drains of the tubs, and sinks.

I run into that issue. I keep all my lids on tight just like pami said but didnt think of the drip tip cover idea. Gonna have to try that next year. Mine happens only in the summer warm months and goes away in the winter. One of the things I do is I have a shot glass filled with apple cider vinegar and a little dish soap (screws with their ability to sit on the liquid so they drown) and that seems to attract alot of them away and kills them off.

Fruit flies go after fruity things.
So I guess they could be attracted to the scent of eliquid.

If not fruit flies, they could be the closely related and similar looking Fungus Gnat, the little flies you see buzzing around potted plants.
They like humidity, which could be why you found them in your RDAs.

One of my friends had a fly climb into his drip tip and it sat directly on the coil of his RDA.
He didn't notice the fly inside his drip tip, picked up the mod and lung hit it!
Needless to say, the fly didn't make it out alive and my friend turned 5 shades of green.
Time to wrap a new coil and rewick for sure!

YES YES YES!
I have NEVER had a problem with flies until I started vaping in my apartment 6 weeks ago.
I like dessert flavours so my liquids are always sweet and usually 70/30 VG/PG.
In the last month, I have noticed a sudden insurgence of small flies. At first, I thought that maybe I had a problem going on in my kitchen, so I have been keeping even cleaner than normal (to the point that if someone spilled a bit of sugary coffee on the counter, immediately wiping that up). But nothing is helping, and I notice they are hanging around the living room, where there is no food, ever, but I do vape there. And when I blow a cloud, they start dinging off of my face!
THEY ARE DEFINITELY ATTRACTED TO SWEET VAPOUR. It has nothing to do with keeping the caps on your bottles, THEY ARE ATTRACTED TO THE VAPOUR. And vape mist attaches itself to surfaces (look up vaping indoors), so you may have a sweet coating on your walls, furniture, etc. One time I didn't wash my hair for 10 days (I know I'm gross) and when I wet my hair and put shampoo in my hair, I could smell vape liquid IN MY HAIR!

These flies are the kind you would see around your overripe bananas, but they are not fruit flies. They are a tiny bit bigger and faster.
I am 100% convinced that vaping sweet e liquids indoors attract these little assholes.

For clarification - vapes DO NOT SMOKE - the cloud is vapor

If your mod is billowing smoke you are in big trouble

Yes! I believe they like the humidity also. I find these little assholes in wet coffee grinds that ppl forget to dump out of the coffee maker. Since I started vaping 6 weeks ago, they have become a problem in my house.

Yes of course. Come on, if you vape you are intelligent enough to know that I misspoke.
Just so that you know, grammar nazis and the such are becoming a thing of the past because the whole world is communicating on the interweb and lots of people are trying to accommodate English.
You will just have to pardon my bad English and TRY to have some compassion for people that try their best with their English. I didn't mean to twist your ta-tas with my bad English grrrl.

Why do you have to be so bitchy? I am trying my best with my English AS I HAVE ALREADY SAID. You are obviously some kind of xenophobe.

Been called a bitch before, but never a xenophobe, lol

No, you are not trying to help me you are being discriminatory and picking at me because of my English. I came on here to share some important info and you are all over me. Please just stop. I will apologize ONCE AGAIN for my English.
I don't know how else to cool you down.
You knew very well that smoke was not what I meant. You are just picking.
In my language we call the vapour smoke OK?

First off - please chill and grow a pair - no one insulted your English, native speakers of the language come here and confuse smoke with vapor almost everyday. I did it myself when I was new to vaping

I'd of never known you were not a native speaker until you said so

With the US government classifying vapes as tobacco, it is very important that all of us who vape make the distinction between smoke and vapor, especially when posting on the world wide web

Excuze me but I just came on here to share some important information and I got made fun of. I did not come on here flashing an attitude.
I did not know that you must bow down and show the back of your neck to 'STAFF'.
But the way I have been treated, I no longer care to do a mitzvah for you people. What a cold and nasty blog this is. Chow little angry person.

It's not like that at all. You're more than welcome to come and join any conversation you see fit. There are of course trolls here but the staff is definitely not them. Just trying to discern the difference between smoke and vapor. The usgovt. is completely against vaping for the most part and we need to keep on our toes sometimes. Hope you stick around. It's a great forum. You'll make a lot of friends on here if that's what you're looking for. :hohoho::xmastree:

Like I said in my first post, if there is smoke coming from your mod, there is big trouble somewhere :giggle:

I've gone too long without cleaning/rewicking and definitely got flame from my coils when trying to dry fire all the gunk :cloud:

But in all reality I have vaped with doing reviews in parks, and in the woods, and never encountered a fly near my juice or atomizer, same goes for being indoors where I do get fruit flies sometimes near my fruit, and vegetable baskets but not my juice or attachments.

I would think banana juice would be a big fly attraction.

I guess anything is possible.

There could be a particular ingredient in the eliquid that @rebecca_d. uses that may not be in most other eliquids.

If she does come back i would like to know if the eliquid she uses is the same brand or from the same vape shop if it's house liquid.
Whatever attracts the flies could be a flavoring agent that isn't as popular as the others.

I vape while working outside often and never had flies attracted to my MOD but have had Bees go for the sweet smelling atomizer. Really glad it was a Yellow Jacket because I saw it when I picked it up.

I would say there are just too many factors to affect this. Climate, season, proximity to water, vaping liquid, etc. From my experience of battling with insects (worked as a pest control expert for almost a year), the don't love the smoke itself. Same goes with citrus and lavender smell. In theory, this means that vaping should repel bugs, but as said above and on other vaping resources https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/threads/does-vaping-attract-insects.582993/ (I don't know if it's allowed to post a link to other vaping forums, sorry if so) things may vary. In my case when I'm at home I always vape near a fly trap. It looks like a plastic bottle and just lures insects inside with UV-light. It seems that those bugs are more attracted to the light instead of smoke. The good thing is that bugs are don't killed which means some occasional bees won't bee harmed.

The only problem with the link to ECF is the thread is closed for further comment so basically it is just old outdated info (5 Years). Nothing new because the Power Hungry MOD's over there decide to stop allowing posts.

For the record, I've never had problems with flies.

I vape mostly outside, but at my friend's house I vape inside constantly, & I've never seen flies in or around my mods, atomizers, juice, or clouds. They have even had a problem with flies in the past & they never came around me or my stuff during that time.

And although I love tobacco flavors, I do also vape fruit & dessert flavors daily.

Just thought I'd mention that. I do agree that there are probably a multitude of factors that go into this. Interesting! :)

Never had a problem with flies but Yellow Jackets are always going for my MOD's. Just the other day I was sitting in a parking lot listening to tunes with the windows open and one was going for my MOD. They don't particularly care for clouds so I got a bit of a rush chasing it out my vehicle with clouds.

Please delete this post, we don’t want anyone in the government reading this, or they will find another reason to ban vaping :)
