What gauges?
So the frames are 28g kanthal a1..the wrap is 36 kathal a1 and the ribbon is this
Wrapped 2 strips of thw ribbon around my swivel making it 4 right? Then one of the 28 making the frames...and then the wrap/fuse.
So i dunno what it is exactly

How is that white build station holding up. I knda wanted one but I didn't want to deal with it getting all dirty looking. So I ended up with a black one.

Yah I'm so not neat LOL
Like fine wire? Im lost...lol.im v enturing out of my fused clapton element...

Fine wire usually means 36+ish ... I was over exagerating. .8 is some tall ass ribbon. 28g is only .32 in diameter so it looks super small next to the .8. Typically framed staples are done with similarly sized ribbon and round. You can go up or down as your please, but to see a jump that big is uncommon. That is not to say it isn't a good build, it just threw me off :teehee:

Yup ... I dont use kanthal round for hardly anything anymore. So It's what I use to futz with. Almost all of my coils use Kanthal ribbon. I have SS ribbon but not super into the SS vape. And I vape 90% of the coils I make. So It only get's used on occasion for color and fun or if I'm making coils for someone else.

It's hard to coil tall ribbon...0.5 is hard for me, that you coiled 0.8 without the ribbon flopping over sideways is very impressive. That is not just an attempt, it is a true framed staple, so kudos

Like this:

4x0.8+28/36 is one way to describe fraples

My most recent build

So I tell my wife I'm going to build. I sit down and get a core prepped up. Then I run a paraclap of 40g over 35g. Stop the drill and I look over and she's asleep. Yes my build station is in my bedroom lol. Guess this build will have to finish tomorrow ... Man ... I was looking forward to building tonight :(
@bx10r - here's about how my station looks most of the time

This is a new series build. I started out with a 7.5 wrap dual KA 28g cores, 36g N80. For one I found that I couldn’t get the alien binding that tight with 36g that came off a 30g decore. I figured instead I’d try a tighter non-alien binding since I only want to use 28g cores for this build. I know high gauge binding is a skill but I find aliening anything above 38g isn’t going to actually make my vape better, just a personal preference. That led to this build that is dual KA 28g cores and 38g regular binding. I did 9.5 wraps this time and I think the vape is much better. I enjoy warm vapes but with series mods you can have a .5 pair of coils and it will still be plenty warm.

Who makes that coil leg length thing?
The original is called a Coily. https://www.coilytool.co.uk/

.45-.5 is my favorite series vape. You still get that punch ... but it's not gonna blow your face completely off.
What ID is that? Cause that thing looks tiny even in a hadaly lol
edit - woops missed that it's not a hadaly.

No worries man. You'll get there if you want to. But for if/when you do get there. Corrugating wire serves 2 purposes.
1) Aesthetics: no explanation needed. Pictures above for reference.
2) Getting wider cores without slamming the resistance into the ground. Say I want to do a supper wide build for one reason or another. But also want a reasonable resistance. I can use corrugated wire to take up a bunch of space inside while using less metal. You can reasonably take up 1mm worth of space with a single piece of ribbon. Essentially getting the look of a 12 ply ribbon core with only 3 pieces of ribbon.
Here's an example: I used 7 pieces of ribbon, the middle being corrugated, for what would have taken at least 15. That is a HUGE save on resistance.PicsArt_10-20-12.14.17.jpg

Well ... this was like wrapping a pool noodle ... Kinda wanted to wrap it to look like an x instead of a t, like the right most two wraps (that's the side i started on). It bound up and did whatever the hell it wanted as it went around the jig. Gonna redo it with a single big round core. Hopefully that will make it behave.

Roll the jig in your hand to coil them, dont wrap your hand around the jig..they like constant tension and a smooth fluid coiling.
