Too high wattage, juice or .. Drop Solo

Greetings!

A few days ago I purchased my first RDA - Drop Solo (Digiflavor & TVC) and CB-60 from Wismec for firing it up.

In addition, I got a 10ml bottle of juice to test it first. 60/40 VG/PG @ 12mg nicotine.

Now, with about half of the airflow holes open at around 30W I get .. as I feel, something quite smokable, BUT - a huge throat hit, too. Going any higher than that just makes me cough like I'm going to die.

I've read that nicotine level might be way tooo high (is it?), but there are also some topics and videos about VG/PG tolerance.

Or will I just get used to it?

Coil rated at 0.18ohms, 2.73V @ 41.5W.

P.S. 12mg gives me a head spin after two or three pufs, too, which I haven't experienced on my previous e-cig, which had a juice tank.

nic is too high. Use eliquid no more than 6mg or use salt nic juice. Wattage isn't high for that coil I'm running same ohms in my rta at 50-55w

Hiya and welcome to VU.

12mg is probably waaaaay too high for you. :D
When I started vaping I was lucky enough to have a very good offline store who refused to sell me anything above 6mg for my setup (was an Alien with a Baby Beast back then) and even with the 6mg they told me "if you feel dizzieness or nausea, stop, come back, get something with less nicotine"

If you need a lot of nicotine, as in you just stopped smoking, go with 6mg for a starter, else go with about 3mg
The throat hit is the first hint to too much nicotine, feeling dizzie is the second hint, it's basically your body telling you "dude wtf"

A rule of thumb is the more output, the less nicotine you need. With an MTL setup @ 12W you can easily have 12-15mg, while with a cloud chaser build @ 200W I wouldn't really go above 3.

High nicotine - I'd recommend 3 or 4mg nicotine for an RDA at anything above 30 watts

Although the Nicotine might be high I find Throat Hit is from the PG and 40 PG is way to much for me to handle at 3MG. 70/30 or 80/20 VG/PG is what I vape.

What ^this^ guy said.

I vape 12mg but I vape at 12 watts.

Ya, the big throat hit is probably a symptom of both the high nic and the high PG.

Of the two, VG is a lot smoother to vape, and makes more clouds. PG holds flavor better, and gives more of a throat hit.

This is probably why you almost never see anything that's 100% one or the other. You need a happy combo of the two.

Also, of the two, PG is a lot thinner of a liquid (less viscous) and more prone to leaking in some tanks.

VG is thicker and will gunk up your coils more, but not much. (really gunky coils at high temps are more a result of carmelizing the sugar in the flavoring.)

VG does not Gunk up coils because I have vaped high or MAX VG for years it is what is in the e-Liquids like flavorings and Sweeteners that gunks coils.

That's what I was saying about the sugar. Even with no sweeteners added in the vape juice, though, your coils will still get nasty eventually, from residue from the VG and PG. Both leave residue, but over time, PG is a cleaner burn. Since flavorings are usually added to the PG, though, it can be just as gunky, or more, if it has a lot of sugar.

I vape at 50-70 watts. I use 3 mg in RDA's and 6 in my sub-ohm tanks. Wish I could vape higher nic to calm my cravings but any higher and I can not help but cough.

Thank you all for your help. Bought another bottle of liquid, 50/50 @6mg and the issue is gone now. Finally enjoying it. :)

A bit off topic, but since yesterday the same coil that was rated ar 0.18 is now rated at 0.36.

How id that possible? Haven’t touched cotton or anything.

I use a Drop Solo myself (using it right now). Check your clamp screws and your 510 pin to make sure they are tight. Not too tight though; it's an atomizer, not the space shuttle lol. If your resistance is still playing games; check your mod for juice in the 510 connector. If that doesn't resolve the issue; the coil may need to be changed. Here's the last build I had in my Drop Solo before my current one. 6 core Alien, 3.5 wraps.
