Bought a charger

Hey all I'm new to here and rather new to vaping (vaping for 2 months now), I've been reading a few threads on here and have learned that I should use an external battery charger. So, I went out and bought a Coil Master A4, it has 4 ports total and 2 ports are 2A and 2 ports are 1A. Is this a good charger?

Welcome to VU and to vaping. The charger you purchased is not a bad charger. if you can verify that the charger drops all four ports to 1 amp when populated that would be a perk, otherwise if you have choice stick to the 1 amp channels on that thing. Charging batteries at 2 amp is going to shorten their life some.

If there is a button on it, press it and se if it cycles between .5w and 1w.

They will all charge at 2 amps. A lot of people do it and it works fine for them. I prefer a slower, lower amp charge. batteries seem to last longer doing it that way. Just my opinion. Sure others will chime in and offer their 2 cents.

The faster 2A charging is a trade off. Like mentioned, lower is better but we're talking a about a minimal in battery lifespan.
So you did good to get an external charger.

Ok. Another question without making another thread, what is everyone's thoughts on the Vaporesso Polar?
Haven't used it but the mod seems ok. New Omni 4 firmware. Can go with 25mm without much concern for overhang and looks like it does temp control well.
Did you buy it already?

Yes, I did. So far I like it a lot more than my SMOK Veneno kit. Fire button always works and the tank doesn't leak so far unlike the Veneno, which was a good starter mod for someone like myself. Unfortunately I didn't get it with the most current update only 1.02 firmware not the 1.03 which is most current. I'm also confused by the modes on the Polar, I'm just using variable wattage mode. Temp control seems like a good mode as well.

It doesn't say it has the ability to do that. Claims the 2A ports are for quick charging, but I'm not sure my Samsung 25R batteries would allow that?

2 A charging on occasion in an emergency won't kill your batteries. Samsung 25Rs are great batteries. I use several of them if I need a true 20 amp battery. I wouldn't make a habit out of charging them at 2A though. According to Battery Mooch, the local resident battery expert, it will shorten the life of them.

Heya,

the 25R's standard charge rate is 1.25A, so 1A is a safe bet.
Anything above 1.25A might shorten their life.

For rapid charge they may be charged at 4A according to the spec sheet, so charging them with 2A here and there should be okay.

I have 2 Efest LUC V4's and if I put 4 batteries in and click over to 2 amp charging it only charges the two batteries in the middle. Power to the two outside bays shuts off. Digital readout for each battery and automatically quits charging at 4.2 so it won't overcharge and vent or blow up my batteries. Charges all four bays at .5 or 1 amp.

The Coil Master A4 charges at 1 amp or 2 no .5 amp option. It does have reverse polarity protection and auto shutoff when the batteries are charged. I don't know how to toggle power on it though .

My nitecore D4 it comes on automatically when you put the batteries in and with 2 batteries it charges at 750mA but that depends on what slot you use. has to be slots 1 & 2 or 3 & 4. With 4 batteries it only charges at 375mA. It takes about 4 hrs to charge 2 3000 mAh batteries at 750mA

I don't own a Coil Master charger I just read about it a little bit. That's why I don't know how to toggle it. But I did have a Nitecore. Now, this was just my personal experience so I'm not bashing Nitecore. I think it was an I-4 that I had. I had not long turned it on and I started noticing an odor in the house. Like an electrical smell or hot plastic. I started checking on various things in the house and it turned out to be the Nitecore. It was really, really hot. Never caught on fire or started smoking but still. That was the end of that. Like I said, I'm not bashing Nitecore because I'm sure that's not the norm but that did it with me and Nitecore.

If you put 4 batteries in it should charge them all at 1A. The 2A charging only works when just the 2A slots by themselves are populated

I put all 4 in yesterday and they charged according to the slots they were in. 2 charged quicker and 2 were slower. I will be looking into other chargers sometime soon.

Highly recommend the Golisi S6, Xtar chargers and Nitecore chargers.

I think I might stay away from Nite Core chargers. Hearing some bad things.

Interesting. My first real 18650 was a nitecore and it still gets used daily, has to be 6+ years old . I have 3 different ones and they all behave. I use all of them all the time and wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Certain model you would recommend?

I also have a 6 year old i4, lol. Gets used pretty much daily, especially when I’m not in a hurry, otherwise I use the Xstar.

The i4 is a good one. I also have the 4 bay without the digital display and the 8 bay Nitecore. Candidly speaking, i would purchase another Golisi S6 or an Xtar if I were shopping for a new one today. I very much like both of these more but the Nitecore is a solid choice (IMO).
