Vaporesso Polar 2.5A charging

I'm looking at ordering a Vaporesso Polar and one of the concerns I've read is the heat generated from charging at 2.5A. I'm just curious about that... Does it really heat up that much? Is it safe? Is it harder on the batteries? I'd prefer not to have to buy a separate charger and I'd sooner buy a mod with slower charging rather than destroying batteries.

Use a different charging cable... .5 / 1.0 / 2.0

I use the Polar and charge it on board. It charges really well and I haven't experienced the mod heating. In fact, I only ever charge it onboard because my external charger is slow (1A or 1.5A I think). At 2A or 2.5A on the polar, the charge time is reduced significantly and the mod even gives you an estimation of when it'll be 100% charged. The estimations are per battery.

As a test, I put 2 batteries which aren't paired and have different battery life to see how the mod will go about charging it and it seems that the mod charges each battery individually because on the screen I was able to see the percentages for each battery as well as an estimate of how long it will take.

The polar is in my opinion a really nice device. I love the fast charging feature and how fast the mod fires up.

With that being said, I do recommend getting an external charger at some point. Although charging onboard with this device was pretty safe for me, its hard to garauntee the same for everyone and a charger is nice to have in case the batteries are unbalanced.

I'm sure the omni board is designed to handle the 2.5 amp charging. Probably tested at quite a bit more too. It's not really a big deal, and a little heat is to be expected. If your worried about it then maybe go a different route if the external charger isn't an option. Charging at lower amperage than designed can actually cause more damage.

It's great that it has onboard balance charging. Even better if it's fast charge capable. All multi-cell mods that allow for charging should have these features, and it should be something that works reliably well. It comes in really handy. Still though, I don't feel it should be your first line of defense when it comes to day to day charging.

Although the batteries we use are capable of high amp fast charging, it's generally accepted that charging "slow and low" is healthier for the cells if I'm not mistaken. Also, if your only way to charge the batteries is via the mod, what happens when the usb port goes tits up?

I have a 4 year old iStick TC40W with a built in battery that still performs like the day I bought it. I never saw a USB Port fail all by itself only from abuse or incorrect usage. I charge batteries in external chargers and using my MOD's and never had a problem. I have an Enook Alien charger here that only has a USB cable for power.

I've tossed a number of devices over the years because they refused to charge via usb anymore. Phones and tablets mostly, but micro usb ports are traditionally pretty delicate and fail often, especially if they are frequently used. Doubly so if the device is used while connected to cable due to the lateral stresses involved. Not suggesting it's guaranteed to happen, but if it's the only mod you have and the only way you're charging, you're pushing your luck.

Yeah. I agree with what you are saying that can also be called misuse or abuse.

Sent from my Pixel 2 XL because Windows update is fucking with me!

Went to the shop and ended up walking out with a Voopoo Drag and a charger so thanks for the input and message received on the charging.

I'd have loved to buy the Polar mod on it's own but I could only find one Canadian online shop that sold the mod on its own without the tank. Nobody in town here has them.

The Nitecore i2 is $10.99 at the 18650BatteryStore. It's a great charger. It won't charge at 2.5A but it has a bunch of built in safety features.
