Mixing and other questions

So I saw on vapewild's website they have flavors for people that like to diy juices. Anybody used them and what are people saying about their flavorings.

I want to start mixing but I have a couple questions.

I can get any ratio of nic/vg/pg from a few different websites.

So of I bought a 80vg/20pg with 3% nicotine all of have to add is the flavoring. I'm not to picky about the nicotine being exactly 3%. I don't like my juice really overpowering so what's a good percentage to start with? I figured 3%-5%?

So if I took my base of 80/20 and added let's say 5% of a flavoring what would the outcome be? I tried putting in the numbers on a few calculators but it's still kinda confusing.

Should I get a 85vg/15pg mix since im diluting the mix 5% with the flavoring?

It just seems easier to buy it already mixed unless I'm missing something

I buy premixed VG w. nic all the time. It keeps the straight nic in the freezer for vapocalypse. Flavor amounts depend on recipe and what the final outcome is supposed to be. Some flavors at 3-5% would be overwhelming and there are some that would be nearly absent.

The best advice I have on this is, get a scale, find some recipes you like that others have worked out and are known to be good and fit your flavor profile. Put them in a eliquid calculator of your choice such as http://e-liquid-recipes.com and work from there. Once you get the hang of how flavors work together, how they get weighed into a mix, how they look in terms of weight vs volume and then start experimenting. It will save you the money of wasting goods and materials, teach you how to maneuver recipe calculator as well as keep you from pulling out your hair.

DIY is the best.

Someone told me PG is easily cross contaminated and I should use air pressure to extract it and work with it in a enclosed area. How do you guys go about handling PG?

Also I understand nic is highly volatile at higher mg levels. I was going to use 24mg nic, I understand I should use gloves and make sure it doesn't come in contact with my skin but at 24mg I should be alright correct?

I want to make juice that's 90%vg 10%pg but if I order 100%pg nic it makes it harder to make mixes with over 10% flavor. Because of the PG in the nicotine. Any suggestions? I read that mixing nic with PG is better because it keeps longer correct?

And do you guys freeze your nic or just keep it in a dark closet at room temperature?

Sorry lotta questions I just want to make sure I get it right. I'm kinda ocd like that lol

You are focused on not making any mistakes, which in itself is a mistake and will lead to more mistakes. just dive in and get to it. A minuscule amount here, a smidgen there are not the end of the world. being on the opposite end of the spectrum and going for max VG, I never sweat the little bit of PG that comes in the flavorings and the juice is always good (unless I made a crap recipe).

Most liquid calculators will give weights for each item, if you have a scale just weigh it in and tare the scale after each ingredient. Its all pretty easy and the best way to learn is get to doing it. A good starting point is Mama j's Game Over Custard, well established and there are no shortage of people on here who can help you through it.

24mg nic does not require a clean room. You can drink a fair amount of it before you get sick and unless you are swimming in it or taking shots of it you will be alright.

I use 100mg/ml Nic-VG and never had a problem. When I first got it I wore plastic gloves when dealing with it but now I just pour it into a 30 ml container and draw from that so I never have to touch it. I did have a mishap once where it splashed into my face and I believe some got in my eye. I did an eyewash but never did notice anything. As long as you rinse it off after using the Nic you should be fine. If you have a heart condition then all bets are off.

I wouldn't buy an 80/20 mix. You then limit yourself in recipes as most flavorings have PG in them. The more flavoring you add the less PG you need to add but if it's premixed then you need to do a whole lot of additional calculations. If your target is 80/20 then you'll always be off. Even though it won't make much difference for personal use you may eventually want to use separate mixes as most recipes you find online call for them to be added independently. Then you'll need to do your own personal recipes all over again.

As for 80/20 that's pretty thick. Is that what you usually vape? I do 65/35 because I like it thinner. It gets soaked into the cotton better and less chance of dry hits. 70/30 is probably the standard on store-bought brands. There are other ratios, but that's what I see the most.

Unless your home has contaminates in it I wouldn't worry about a clean room or anything like that. As long as you're "kitchen clean" you're fine. If I was a commercial vendor I would rent a kitchen when I mixed, but not for personal use.

Thanks, I started mixing like a week or 2 weeks ago. First batch wasn't the best but my last mix came out pretty good. I realized I'll prolly do a 70/30 vg/pg mix as like you said 80/20 is just to thick and doesn't wick as well.

My first batch was awful! Second batch a little better. Now I'm getting pretty good at it. It's like baking a cake. Just follow the recipe.

I used to sit there and try to get exactly .56 ml into the syringe and worry about all kinds of things. Sometimes the plunger just doesn't want to settle somewhere. Now it's like, ok - you're getting .55. Just live with it.

About the only thing I am strict about is cross-contamination. I rinse out the syringe after each use, keeping a glass of distilled water on the table with an empty glass next to it. This wouldn't pass FDA regulations, but is good enough for personal use.

I bought the AWS scale that was recommended on this forum from amazon. When it came it must have gotten dropped or something because the numbers were jumping everywhere when I turned it on. I returned it to amazon but debating on wether or not I should take my chances and order it again. I went to try to find one locally but no luck with that. Closest I found was a scale that weighs to .1 grams and cost $50.

I haven't gotten into using a scale. My fear is that I'll forget to zero it and mess up my whole recipe. Maybe I'll start using one at some point, but the syringes work fine for me and they're very cheap. Eventually the numbers wear off after washing them so many time, but again - they're cheap.

A lot of people use scales and that's great. It's just not for me.

LB 501 scale is what I use. Super simple with no clean up.

Scale was the game changer. So easy to get everything just right.

Absolutely! The LB 501 is the standard, but I bought a little Toprime scale off Amazon for about 10 bucks that will weigh up to 500 grams and is accurate to .01 gr. It works great, and speeds up mixing time immeasurably.
