Comparison: Nicotine in Cigarettes and Vapes

Hi folks

Being a concerned cigarette smoker/quitter, i changed to vaping a few days ago. And there's tons of stuff i'd like to know. :D
For example: I used to smoke 15 cigs a day, each containing 0.7mg nicotine.
Compared to that, i'm smoking a 0.3mg/mL liquid in my 2ml tank. The restistence is 0.29 - 0.31 Ohm with an average Wattage of 40.0. Did somebody of you do the math? Is there an approximation to how much cigarettes a 2ml tank corresponds to?

I don't know if there's a rule of thumb or actually an accurte way to deduct this value. If so, please provide a formula.

Thanks

There is this thing that nicotine users do called self titration.

What happens is you use enough nicotine until you feel satisfied then stop.

This is why tobacco companies no longer list nicotine or tar content.

Smokers compensate with light cigarettes by taking deeper more frequent drags and cover the holes in the filter.

Vaping is the same way.
You vape until you are satisfied.

Also nicotine is not the enemy.

Lighting burning plant matter on fire then inhaling it deep into the lungs every hour for decades is where the harm from smoking comes from.

There is no combustion in vaping so there is no burning anything.

I suggest you read up on nicotine. The general public believes the harm of cigarettes is in the nicotine and that is absolutely false. Ask yourself the questions, "If nicotine is the problem, then why have governments around the world sanctioned its use in patches, gums and whatever else they use for smoking cessation? If nicotine is harmful then why do people around the world consume it in their food, yet no government has sounded the alarm about how dangerous tomatoes are to our health?" Tobacco itself is not harmful. It's the burning and inhalation of the smoke that kills. You've been sold a bill of goods that is wrong. Now that you are vaping, you should rectify that issue by doing some reading.

To gauge nicotine consumption, just track how much liquid you use per day. If it takes you X number of days to go through a 60mL bottle containing 18mg of nicotine, the math is pretty straightforward.

I read it up. The absorbation rate and emotional state also vary for each person. So an average adult consumes only 0.1mg by smoking a 0.7mg cig. That may make the calculation a little bit more complicating then... I guess i will go with the straight-forward approach you suggested. Turns out this actually works pretty good (in case the absorbation of nictonine in eliquids is about the same as with normal cigs).

I do know that nicotine isn't the the worst harmbringer in a product. Our own body even produces natural nicotine. The effect it brings with it is really bad tho because the addiction is still there. The fact of no combustion taking place makes vaping actually a good thing. So what i wanted to know is if there's a way to calculate if my addiction/consumption of nicotine grew since i started vaping or decreased. I'll be sure to read up some more on nicotine, it's effects and cleaning my lungs of all the tar and carcionids.

Thank you for your replies.

BTW: Will vaping affect the speed at which the mucus cleanses my lungs? :)

IME, not appreciably. I'm approaching the 6 month mark myself now, but I had noticed the effects of quitting smoking within the typical timeframe (able to run up a flight of stairs without getting winded, no nighttime coughing fits, etc).

One possible side effect of vaping VG is a build up of mucus. If I go over 60% VG, I'll start hacking it up. You'll have to test to find the limits that fit you.

rule of thumb.. for mouth to lung for a pack a day smoker is about 18mg/ml. Vape when you feel like it or feel the need to have a smoke.. just don't have the smoke, vape instead, the urge will pass in a minute or so.
if 18mg is to much, cut down to 12.. later to 6 and then 3 should you want to try direct to lung inhale. Basically it is all about what you like.
Now to compare nicotine in cigarettes vs vape.. you really can't compare what is on the packages. It is absorbed differently. So we estimate the nicotine that we need to give the desired effect. Now... lets go back to that pack a day smoker.. assuming 18mg is about what he needs to vape. So vaping 5ml per day or smoking 1 pack of cigarettes...vaping delivers 1/6 the amount of nicotine to the blood stream. Even though the base nicotine contents are roughly the same, it doesn't all get absorbed. And, as stated.. nicotine isnt the demon anti smoking lobbists have been claiming it to be.. basically, it is less harmful than caffeine.

Nicotine alone is NOT the addictive part of smoking. When you combine nicotine with MAOIs you get a cocktail that causes a chemical dependency in the brain; combine that chemical dependency with constant use over many years, and you then have ADDICTION.

Most people can recover from nicotine+MAOI dependency with nicotine alone, and when used with vaping which mimics the smoking behavior, that ultimately conquers the ADDICTION to smoking. However there are a good many of us who were more dependent on the MAOIs than the nicotine, and for those, there is WTA (whole tobacco alkaloids) -- which is nearly as habit-forming as smoking tobacco, but easier to titrate.

To repeat: NICOTINE IS NOT THE BAD GUY. The bad guys are actually those who've spread such vicious lies and deliberate disinformation about nicotine, and even about smoking. Smoking IS dangerous, but primarily for the SMOKER -- all this bullshit about 2nd-hand smoke is about 95% exactly that -- bullshit.

That is so totally wrong because I know of a few relatives of long time smokers who died of Lung Cancer who never smoked a cigarette in their lives. I do not know where you get your information from but I think you need to recheck your facts.

For Example:

There is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke causes numerous health problems in infants and children, including more frequent and severe asthma attacks, respiratory infections, ear infections, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

I'm currently vaping off of a 3mg and I've been nearly a pack a day smoker. I smoked like 10 cigs over the whole last week, only doing so when my vape ran either out of battery or juice. So i guess I'm on the right track. The 1/6 absorbation part was especially helpful :)

IME, not appreciably. I'm approaching the 6 month mark myself now, but I had noticed the effects of quitting smoking within the typical timeframe (able to run up a flight of stairs without getting winded, no nighttime coughing fits, etc).
Thanks for the encouraging words. Where have you found that timeline? The only thing im getting are timelines with nicotine quitters and not people converting to vaping...

The issues appearing with second hand smoke are not to be underestimated. But let's not get too offtopic here. Thank you for your replies everybody.

Something like this:
https://whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Benefits_Time_Table.html
Obviously the assumption is that a person is quitting cold turkey with no NRT/vaping, but this particular bit was well in line with what I experienced.

2 weeks to 3 months: Your lung function has noticeably improved. If your health permits, sample your circulation and lung improvement by walking briskly, climbing stairs or running further or faster than normal.

I noticed the improvement in running up the steps within two to three weeks. A month ago, as a sign of my progress, I climbed the stairs to the top of a 144' lighthouse on Tybee Island, GA without dying/needing a break (on a miserably hot day to boot).

Always buy more than you need (vape juice) and.. a removable / rechargable battery is nearly essential. Im using a Mech atm, and have 1 battery in the mod and 4 charging. When one goes dead, I just ask the wife to get me a fresh one Yes, I am spoiled and have a great wife. LOL.

Anything over 6mg is too much for DL. I started with 6mg and have gotten sick by vaping too much but 3mg is perfect for my vaping style. Nicotine is not bad for you if you don't over do it and has health benefits

No it is not because my first MOD was an iStick TC40W and I never was unable to vape because of Pass Thru charging which almost all built in battery MOD's have.

I agree, not essential; for quite a while after I started vaping, all I used were integrated-battery mods. I think the best-case is to have a decent selection of both kind, removable- AND integrated-battery mods, but starting off, the integrated ones are useful because you don't have to buy more stuff right away (battery and charger), you can get your feet wet with vaping without going broke or investing in something you aren't yet sure you'll like.

It also has health detriments. All in all, the cons outweigh the pros. However, it isn't the "killer drug" anti smoking media has led us to believe for the past 50 years. The only time you should use nicotine in your ejuice is if you are currently using nicotine before vaping. Other than that, it isn't necessary. Lets not help the FDA any more than we need to.
