To peel or not to peel (japanese cottons pads) thats the questions

Hi guys, try to find answers to that in other topics but was unable ,so, sorry if im posting it in the wrong section,

I've been having lots of burns in the middel of my wick. Not bad taste, but when im going to rewick, it dont come trough entirely, it splits half to right and half to left.

Im peelling the fine off layer of the japanese cotton pads. Is this right? Or should i use the entire cotton, with the fine outside peel?

And, always trying no to use too much or too little, just enought to it keep firm but not too tight in the coil. And i always fluffy the edges also...

Using a Zeus Duas RTA with SS claptons...

Thanks guys,

Best for all. .

Personally, I peel off the outer layers.
I find it helps with wicking.
Down day that it aids in the “capillary wicking action”. I’m not scientific enough to get into all that, just a poor Shlub that peels his cotton.

I always peeled it when I used it. I use Cotton Bacon Prime now. Have you tried Scottish roll technique?
This may not be the best tutorial..

At least your a capitol S, I'm just s. :giggle:
Lmao...
yeah I had the Scottish role for certain(most really) rdas. I find it hinders more than helps with certain tanks though.

Hi guys, just quick update. Yesterday i tried to wick my dual coils with japanese pads without peeling. Dont know if it was because i use too little cotton (at the end i really tought it were thin...). But the thing is. In the Second puff, hard dry hit. Need to rewick with regular peeling and fluffing, and everything back to sweet spot.

Cheers.

This happens to me sometimes too. If I wick it tight, then move it back and forth inside the coil to loosen it up a bit, it leaves more outside the coil. Then when I pull it out to rewick, the part outside the coil is like a stopper, sometimes making the wick pull apart inside the coil.

I know this might appear as promotion of some other forum. It is not intended as such but merely passing along some common information. A lot of how I wick involves peeling off the outer layers on Muji cotton pads, Scottish Roll & the general principles of "how to" wick as discussed for rayon.

Think I have kind of settled to cotton because for myself at least, noticed a bit of a scratchy throat using rayon. Not sure of the what, why, how of it but not sure I like feeling the "fiberglass" coughing fits similar to smoking menthol cigarettes too much. Cotton doesn't give me that feeling, rayon does. So yeah, ... la la la. :)

I like "shouldered" up to the coil cotton that cascades like a waterfall down into drip well, if I can get the wick to fan out like tiny tree roots great. For the most I find it being highly subjective. You wick to what suits "that rda" or "that tank" and what suits you. Sorry if that's not a definitive answer/response.

i never peeled at first. then saw videos of people peeling, gave it a try - break in time was faster and little to no cotto taste. SO I peel always now

I peel like everyone above, stretch the pad out to double it’s size, roll it up like a straw then feed it through (before the raking and shaping bit commences) ...like that vid vape fan attached (make sure your hands are clean or it transfers oils onto the cotton)

It’ll soon become second nature how much you tear off after a few re-wicks

Helps to take pics after each attempt until you nail it, that way you can remember exactly how you did it each time, unless of course you use that same tank week in week out, if that’s the case you’ll end up re-wicking with your eyes closed

ROFL --- Don't I wish.

I guess my case doesn't count though. I'm always doing something different just to throw myself off. It helps me keep um, sane. Know that might sound counter-intutive to sanity. Had a lot of various aspects of life happen for me, ergo, I learned things differently and so too sanity.

I actually got good enough stripping out 9 mm pistol and putting it back right, was doing it blindfolded for a spell. The Marine that claimed being my biological father let me use his 9 mm but only if I could ensure it stayed clean. Kind of scared him when I did the dressing of it blindfolded. He wanted to know where I'd learned it. Told him it was kind of instinctual. That scared him even more.

I like using the Gorge. Bang on simple to do 7 wraps of SS316 round 3 mm ID, take out grubs, plop the legs in grub screw it down, trim legs, whip a pinch of cotton through, fluff & trim ... on to vaping. I probably could do it blindfolded but just not given it a try yet. The Wasps are a little trickier. Need to leave the grubs just in those, laso the wire into the divets then screw the grubs down. Not sure I can commit that to muscle memory yet.
