Do you notice any difference in the flavor of your vape between the two?

I thought I read somewhere that there wasn't a flavor difference, only that Nichrome heated up faster. I could be wrong , ive only tried Kanthal

Yes, though it's difficult to describe. It's not so much a difference in flavor... ...I don't feel that either metal has a distinct taste. As in, I would never say "Yep, that tastes like kanthal." I notice more of a difference in the presentation of the flavor, rather than in the flavor itself. The flavor is the same, but the character is different. Personally, I like the character of a kanthal vape. I feel it's got a bit more oomph and complexity to it. Sorry to all of you nichrome heads, but I find the flavor that I get from nichrome to be sort of one-note. It's very bold and smooth, but there's not a whole lot else going on there... ...for me, anyway.

Okay, so here's why I asked.

I decided to make a dual coil alien build out of all N80 (3x26/36). It tasted like shit to me. So, it put together a 2x26/36 fused Clapton from the same wire, and put it on a different RDA. STILL tastes like shit. So, I'm thinking, "Do I have a bad batch of nichrome?". That could really suck, because I'm putting my reputation on the line starting this coil business. So... I made yet ANOTHER fused Clapton, this time with a different manufacturer's nichrome, everything else the same. STILL tastes like shit!

So, does nichrome taste like shit to me, or is it the particular juice I'm using doesn't mix well with nichrome? It's a DIY fruit loops cereal type juice that tastes great in my kanthal aliens. I also tried two different types of wicking material, just in case. Nope - still sucks.

I mean, this is no little difference - this is going from a really good ADV juice to "What the Hell is THAT?!?!?" type of taste. I mean friggin' disgusting!

So I don't get it. I can't seem to find anything else that talks about the flavor difference being this extreme.

How long did you vape on them? If it's anything like my SS even torching it and cleaning it, there's still a break in time. It also heats up faster and I find I get more cotton flavor until that's properly worked in. I assume you've worked them in but just throwing this out there. usually takes me about 2-3ml of juice to get the cotton worked in and a bit more for the SS. Once it's done it's beautiful and pure flavor. Kanthal doesn't take nearly as long to get worked in, or at least my experience with it. They just go bad sooner and overall don't treat me as well as SS in general which is why I prefer SS when it's an option.

I'll try it again and break the cotton in and see how that works out.

I'm just not a fan of nichrome - seems to leave a lot of my flavors with a hard-to-describe, almost "tinny" taste...kanthal and SS are my go-tos.

@CrazyChef - I may have some answers or at least very plausible theories. Question is do you want the Blue pill or the Red one??
It could get wordy!
Not to mention it will not make Nichrome fans happy.

Nichrome taste delish to me... kanthal taste delish to me.... I make coils... they vaporize unicorn tears into my lungs. ... ... joking aside. .... I've teeter'd back and forward between the 2 and always end up vaping on my Nichrome coils.... try using 2x24g n80 fused with 38g kanthal. My main squeeze if im out of 38g n80... come back and discuss

Nichrome has no metallic taste but kanthal taste like metal to me. I think it's the iron in it. Also kanthal coils rust. My n80 Claptons last months since they don't rust.

know this is old thread but Im getting a shitty taste as well. My first time trying n80 it's actually a hybrid of kanthal and n80..getting a wierd unhealthy taste..kinda worried hoping it will work its self out.

Did you heat up the coil and check for hot spots before wicking?

Whilst making sure to not overheat the build deck of your atomizer in the process of dry firing your newly built coils (by rubbing a few drops of tap water around the side of the deck and using enough patience), keep pulsing them red-orange for a while before letting everything cool down again, and repeat this whole process multiple times. Doing this takes more than just a few minutes until finally the funny/metallic taste will have been cleared, but the good news is if all goes well it will have been cleared permanently.

Like so many things in life, maybe just a little bit. But I'm more worried about inhaling other types of pollution, like all the soot and the nitrogen dioxide coming from diesel car exhausts... in fact smoking a quarter of a pack of normal cigarettes each day might actually be shortening people's lives less severely than living in an area flooded with the kind of traffic that's constantly stuck. Think about the volatile organic compound emissions you get from people who think all the piercing fumes of cleaning products, air fresheners and certain types of cosmetic bodycare products are completely without harm. This afternoon I took the plunge and ordered myself a Dyson Pure Cool purifying desk fan (2018 model). I just figured since I've already been thoroughly enjoying vaping on the batteries that Sony has developed for their cordless vacuum cleaners (VTC5A and now also VTC5D batteries) they really can't be bad. :D
