I think it really is IN my nature to be an asshole. Often that is not to my advantage. When I was younger, I was just crazy. Not sure which is worse, crazy or asshole. For crazy, they've got meds.

I have sisters-in-law who remind me of your neighbor. I can't stand 5 out of 6 of them, but they have no idea, they're so damn dense. I can be an asshole to them and it just goes right over their heads. Makes me realize that I don't want to act in public in a way that would get through to them, because it would just make me insane and I'd still have no assurance of progress.

Maybe when he comes over to chat, you could just walk off, tell the man you've got food in the oven or something. Do it enough times, will he get the message?

Oh, and what is up with that "you need to hurry up" stuff? I'm not helping this, am I? He needs to hurry up and hush, though.

yeah kinda what I figured.
so the cussing will commence.

He is one of those types that enjoys aggravating people.
Well he aggravated the wrong person too much.

Thought the recent tractor on the lawn scenario might be enough to land you both in jail...

Has not worked and what I have been doing for years with him.
But he got worse when he lost his job and I think he can't put up with his brother that he lives with...
He wants to be my bestest buddy and I am having none of it.

Is there a type of music you might find pleasing he would find obnoxious?

I don't care for music outside, but I have found it an excellent neighbor repellant when face with a similar scenario - fortunately, I love the Butthole Surfers :D

Or maybe a little 2LiveCrew?

I have no idea what music he likes or if he even listens to music.
Seems like all he does is watch TV and eat.

With my luck he would like whatever I played....
I Often played AC DC and Motley Crue and such in my workshop.

This is PRECISELY what killed my mother. She was diabetic... but because a) she went to the doc, and b) he gave her meds to take, she thought that meant that a) she could eat whatever she wanted, and b) she never needed to check her blood sugar. So she died at the age of 75 because it's impossible to have a life-supporting blood pressure when all your blood vessels have crystallized from the high sugar level in your blood. And your immune system doesn't work in that condition, either.

And she called me a hypochondriac because I studied up on how to live and eat to support good health -- my A1C at my last bloodwork in Feb was 5.1, despite my age (almost 57) and my heredity (gobs of diabetics!).

Being an old fart, well reminds me of a quote from Jack Nicholson that I'm paraphrasing -

Playing loud music will give an asshole an excuse to call the cops. On the other hand, a neighbor liked playing his Mexican music really loud until I drowned him out with Megadeth.

he does not live close enough for the music to be an issue if he is at home.
So no problem.
And I get along well with my close neighbors. And if I explained it to them they would also play loud music.
They know me and they know the asshole.

One neighbor has offered to pour me a concrete pad for a workshop at cost.
He is in the pool business.

Hi Gang. Don't know how long I can be on here tonight because I pulled a Jimi this morning. Loaded Teddy in the truck to go to the Vet, drove out of the garage and stopped just inside the gate. Stepped out of the truck into the snow and started to walk around to open the gate and -- I swear this is true -- I did not see the crystal clear [black] ice that started right at the edge of the snow, so there I am, lying on the ground, not sure if I can even get back up. I landed on my left butt cheek (bruised the hell out of my thigh muscle) and my left arm (thought my rotator cuff issue was almost over, but it is back in force now). I leaned on the hood of the truck for a few minutes and wondered, for just a moment, if I should now go back to bed. I then realized that I had deprived Teddy of food and water for the past 12 hours so he could have his operation today and I was not going to put him through that again just because I did something stupid. I got in the truck and drove him the 80 miles to the Vet. I have been in agony (read that like the cartoon version: AG-O-NEE) all day and now that everything is done and over with, I have the option to go to bed or sit here and play like I am enjoying being an Old Phart. Hmmmmm... tough decision.

Welcome to "old age". With bone spurs on my spine pinching nerves, I live with agony. I have also learned to live with "not letting it stop me".

This is going to sound nasty and it truly is not intended to be so.

Sarah, dear, you haven't been here long enough to "know" me yet. Not only does every vertebra in my spine have tons of spurs, but every disc is blown out and the spine tilts to the left, causing the rib cage to make nasty pains at the sternum that make you think you're having a heart attack. And one of the vertebra in the lumbar area is actually broken and I have to wear a girdle to hold myself together because the neuro-surgeon says he can't fix me. Add to that, both of my knees are made of titanium and all the tendons, ligaments, etc, are hosed beyond belief. Yes, dear, I know about and live constantly with pain and still manage to run a small farm, in spite of the fact that I have been totally disabled for 18 years. That little fall this morning could have put me in a wheelchair for the rest of my life... or ended it.

You are right. I did not know that.
My spine is so messed up that I was put on disability at age 20. Imagine (when I was 21) going to doctors, and showing a medicare card. Some still look at me funny for doing that at 51. My last spine surgery at least made it possible for me to stand up for 5 minutes at a time.

Well, at least I had the opportunity to "climb every mountain" up until 51 (I am 69 now) and it sounds like you didn't even get the chance. At least your doctor(s) are doing surgery (mine are waiting until androids get invented so they can put my brain in one). Do you have any chance for full recovery, or are you going to be sitting forever?

You have the neighbor from hell. I have two neighbors I dislike. I ignore them. The lady on the North side always peeks in my windows. The south side neighbors called the village on me back in 2000 for having a backyard garden. Nothing compared to your situation...just chatting.

The doctors did not do anything until 2 years ago, and tell me they cannot do anything else. Most of the quacks just want to shove pills down my throat. The bone that was removed had pinched my nerves so much that it hurt to sit or lie down. The bulged discs don't help either, but the docs don't want to mess with them. I get around just a bit better now, than my 70 year old mother, whom has many of the same problems.

I guess we ended up with opposite reactions. Both had a nasty fall, but you can't sit and I am having one helluva time standing for more than a few minutes. Walking is even harder. Lying flat on my back works best, but ya know, it's just really hard to go feed the cows and horses and chickens and dogs and... well, you know the story.

On the good side of this story, however, Teddy came through his operation with flying colors. The Vet says she has never seen a cat come out of the anesthesia so quickly and with such an abundance of energy. He is extremely happy to be home now. :xD:

That's the part that sucks the most. I was very disappointed when they told me there is nothing they can do. I keep reading about all these miracle surgeries, but maybe those only apply to very rich people...

With very expensive insurance or an unlimited credit card, they could probably go bionic. Us poor schmucks are supposed to be happy with medicines that stop us from crapping, and can cause liver damage. I'm lucky to have a primary care that I can talk to like a professional. I dropped the last quack for sending me to nonstop tests, but never a referral to get anything done. With my current doc, it took 3 referrals to get something done.

That's the part I was hoping for, but the nice old man (beyond retirement age) at the Veterans Affairs hospital (my only source of medical help) implied that isn't available yet. Can't seem to wrap a metal framework around my entire spinal cord. Sigh... I would love to have Data's body (ala Star Crock) with my brain in it.

It was almost like he knew something bad was coming. The hour and a half drive to get there, the poor little guy cried at me the entire trip in. One the way home, I stuck my fingers through the carrier door and he rammed his head against them, rubbing against me like a little lover who had just found a long lost friend. He's asleep right behind me as I type this stuff on the computer (while chewing carrots, of course). :)

I Often played AC DC and Motley Crue and such in my workshop.

Usually whether or not a person likes country music is a good tell -- I know you hate it, but see if he likes it -- if he does, then the heavy metal might chase him off, especially if you play it REALLY LOUDLY. Some good ol Black Sabbath might get you pest-free. :)

For myself, trying to chase off the obnoxious who like that rap shit, playing country music, some of which I actually like, usually does the trick. :D

Yeah, it's been about a year and a half now, and I still have a very hard time believing she's gone. She was a huge pain in my ass my entire life, but she was a pain in the ass I was used to -- I didn't like or respect her, but I did love her, even though she infuriated me in every possible way you can imagine. But at least she's not in pain anymore, and not bothered by everyone who loved her trying to get her to eat actual food instead of garbage.

My son is under orders to let me know if I ever make him want to stay away from me -- I never want to annoy anyone as much as she annoyed me! And certainly not my own offspring!

Teddy has shown already that he is waaaayyyy too smart to be "just a cat." We also have one of our dogs (a Belgian Malenois) who is so smart that sometimes she is scary.
