Cotton bacon - Breaking it in?

ive been using various cotton brands for a while now and I picked up my first package of cotton bacon this week. I threw it in my rta 2 days ago and I still taste cotton and a faint taste of the ejuice.

I juiced the wicks well, Not getting a burning taste. Just like.. ejuice flavored cotton hits.

I tried to search it but didn’t find much of an answer. Does this cotton have a break in time? Should I do something different?

Cotton Bacon just like nearly any other wicking material has a break in time, but not of 2 days or hours, most are great after 2-8 hits or quarter/half a tank etc.

Only thing I could think off, you're using way too much cotton, chocking the coil then you will have that never ending cotton taste till you end up getting the dry hit. If you take your cotton out right now, is it dry in the middle?

Other thing could be, you not vaping at high enough wattage/temperature so your cotton doesn't get broken in because you only vaporize a bit of juice, and your tank didn't get the memo of drinking the juice.

Opposite can work do the same, too high of a temperature/wattage, sucking the juice right out the cotton leading to cotton taste, but normally as I mentioned above, in this case you should get dry/burnt hit. Trust me you'll know if that's happening.

Wicking can be tricky and needs practice in general, I would advise thinning the cotton out further and then trying with less.

Cotton Bacon V2 IMO still has a good amount of a break in period, thus I was never that impressed with it. I especially don't like how they cut it up into strips. I liked Native Wicks Platinum Blend much better than CB V2, but for the cost it never really pulled me away from Koh gen Do. But for about the last week I've been trying out Cotton Bacon Prime, well I've been impressed. So much so it may have the potential of unseating my beloved Koh gen Do as my regular Wicking material.

That said, yes insure you're not using too much cotton and also use a pick, tweezers or something to thin out and straighten out the tails a bit. Then also when you've primed the coils hit the power about 2-3 times. This will serve to get the coils and wick fully saturated with also the benefit of cutting down the break in time. I don't care what anyone says there is always a bit of a break in period no matter what wicking material you use, it just comes down to how long.

I got the version 2, and I purchased 2 packages (from a reputable dealer because I read about there being fakes) so I’m hoping this works out for me.

Previously I was using “Texas tuff” cotton, Despite there being no real break in time it didn’t wick properly and was a pain to take apart.

I think I will rewick this cotton bacon again using a little less.

I should have noted I threw it on a brand new Kylin Mini so there’s that as well.

Lol this is only my 2nd rta. First being the Zeus which I’m about ready to throw out the window because getting it back together takes about 15 minutes.

If you like single coil RTA's I can't recommend the Slider enough. Simple to build, break down/clean and one hell of a good performer. Then add to this excellent build quality along with one hell of a hefty case, hell you could turn it into a mod.

Excellent price here

I got the version 2
Now that I'm awake, I can tell you why I asked... :giggle: ... I have all three versions, v1, v2, and Prime, and for me the v1 has an exceptionally long break-in taste, usually have to go through a couple tanks to get rid of it. V2 has a much shorter break-in, but I tend to drown my wicks before I even reassemble my tanks, I guess because the v1 got me in the habit of that. Prime has virtually no break-in to me, I just don't see paying nearly double for it as opposed to its v2 counterpart, just to avoid the tiny bit of cotton taste I get from its predecessor.
We're all going to have different opinions and experiences with this though. Last summer, I was prompted to get some Cotton Candy wicking after a very convincing video on their product. "From the soil to the coil" is their catch phrase to convince its consumers of just how "natural" it is, and they guarantee a clear, clean taste right off the bat. Liars! It isn't the worst cotton in the world, but I never did get the stuff adjusted or fluffed to the point that I didn't taste pure cotton through at least two tanks. It's kinda like vaping a t-shirt.

Why have I not heard about this RTA? I really like the design and build deck!
It's really under the radar, I have a SS and Gunmetal. I've really been impressed, love the design, build quality and performance. Simple to build, love the ease of the fill method and it is my favorite single coil RTA to date.
