Quitting Smoking / Need Help Buying Vape!

Hi all,

So I'm about to move into my new place, and I really want to try to stop smoking all together. I've tried vaping before and I really like it. It's clean, ash free, smells good, tastes good, and I've heard it's much better for you than cigarettes.

That being said, I need help buying a good vape. I want something POWERFUL, but also reliable. I like the idea of getting big clouds.

At the same time, I can really only afford about $200 total after liquid and everything.

So basically, I'm asking you guys to help me buy the best MOD kit, with high wattage, reliability, and I very much prefer the idea of a refillable tank.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Was it a tank you tried and liked? If so which one? MTL or DTL? That's a healthly budget to start out.

Thanks for the replies. I was using a Kangertech Mini that indeed had a tank. I picked it up from a friend for free, but it seemed pretty weak, almost as if too much air was getting through, and it's maximum wattage was 75 I believe. It just didn't pack a punch or have that "power" that I've felt when trying other people's vapes.

I'm not sure which type of tank it was, as I don't know much about vapes at all, but to answer your questions, I do much prefer having a tank over a drip. I travel a lot and having to constantly refill just isn't convenient. So basically,

something that packs a punch, preferably up to 200 watts, within the 120-150 dollar range would be the best for me. Since I'm quitting smoking, and I'm a pretty heavy smoker, the only thing that's really going to replace that craving is thick, deep lung hits that will make me feel like I'm actually inhaling smoke.

How about an RTA? Change the coil every great once in a while and the wick every so often?

For a mod, I recommend the dual battery Smok Alien 220 tc, match that up with Uwell's Valyrian tank. Should easily be able to find those online for a total of around $100.

I like my Alien because it's dual battery, charges relatively fast, is pants pocket compatible and the screen tells you everything you want to know. I like the Valyrian for the clouds and the flavor it gives is about the best there is out there for sub ohm tanks, 5 ml capacity and the coils last a very, very long time before needing to be replaced. This set up supplies the nic I need and the flavor is excellent - I smoked 2+ packs a day for 40 years and this set up works well to keep me the hell off them evil things.

Starting from scratch with no batteries/battery charger/juice, you'll need that $200 for a good setup like your wanting.

As far as tanks, depends on if you want MTL or DTL. http://www.ecigclick.co.uk/mouth-to-lung-vs-direct-to-lung/
If what you tried/referred to is something like this, it does both. ,https://kangeronline.com/products/kanger-subox-mini-starter-kit
Until you answer that, it's hard for anyone to suggest a tank. Since you're just starting and traveling a lot, you'll probably want to start with something that has pre made / oem coils.

As for mods, here's 3 good regulated mods of differing design in your 200 range. Depends on size, shape, looks you like - then determine it's build quality by checking with members here. I would suggest a dual battery or you could easily find yourself having to keep spare charged batteries to last you a day. Still may with a dual. Depends. Sounds like your leaning towards more power to get that vape your looking for. Power plays only 1 of several roles in achieving vape production and that cig emulating throat hit.
http://smoant.com/cylon-218w-color-screen-tc-mod/index.html
http://modefined.com/sirius-2/
http://www.teslacigs.com/design/wye200w.html < mod only. I don’t know about the tank.

4 - 18650 Sony VCT6 or Samsung 30Q + a charger will run about $50. $100ish for mod + tank leaves 40-50ish for spare oem coils (if you get that type tank) and juice.

But imo, to narrow tank/mod/possible kit choices, we need to know a couple things about your preferences. MTL or DTL (and someone could come along with one that's great at both), and mod design.

Whew !

Okay, so this is what I did and you guys can kick me if it was a stupid decision, but I had to buy my vape yesterday while I was in town, so I hadn't yet gotten a chance to evaluate all replies and whatnot. That said, feedback on these decisions will greatly help me in the long run.

So, I did a lot of digging, and while I know SMOK isn't the most reputable brand and only recently stepped up their game in the vape industry, the G-PRIV 2 seemed like a decent fit of me and a good place to start for someone fairly new to vaping. Especially due to it's ease of use. HOWEVER, I upgraded the tank to the Cloud Beast King TFV12 due to it having more efficient coils than the stock tank. This was a free upgrade thanks to the dude at the vape store, and he also kicked me a free huge bottle of liquid.

So far, it's been working really well, and I enjoy the touch screen (and I'm also very careful so not too worried about breaking it). It hits pretty hard.

I am having one problem, however. When adding liquid to it, it leaks from the ventilator no matter what I do, or how careful I am. Keep in mind that the guy at the vape shop installed the tank for me initially, so assuming he knew what he was doing, I left it as is.

I haven't taken it apart fully just yet, but I did tweak it earlier but haven't yet added more liquid, so I'll see if it fixes it (I adjusted the rubber ring that sits at the top of the tank by pushing it down a bit).

If you guys know what my problem is with filling the TFV12 I'd appreciate any advice. Before anyone asks, I know I'm putting the liquid in the right place and I'm not over filling or anything. I make sure it's completely cool before attempting to add liquid, and I've even tried closing the ventilators and doing an upside down tilt to get rid of any excess air. Also, any input on my final decision is also really appreciated.

@Vape Fan Your responses have been incredibly useful and you sound like you know what you're talking about. I'll be hitting you up for recommendations on my next mod.

@NoProblem I was close to getting that, as well as the Mag. It was a really hard decision.

@jives21 Funny you mention that, one of his reviews is one of the reasons I ended up getting this mod.

In case you guys weren't already familiar with the G-PRIV 2: Color touch screen, dual-battery, adjustable wattage (up to 230W), temperature control, preheat, etc. $99 to $130 for full kit.

P.S. I started with the "Southern Classic" Blueberry Cupcake E-liquid, and currently have a bottle of King Cake e-liquid being shipped to me. Liquid recommendations would be awesome too. I really enjoy the creamy, desert cereal-ish flavors. Not the biggest fan of just straight up fruit or candy flavors though.

Excellent move! I would say that you did excellent starting off with that mod and tank - should easily deliver the nicotine needed and give you the clouds and flavor you like to boot! WTG!

Far as leaking goes, my TFV12 Prince has not leaked yet but in the past whenever I've had that issue, I simply replace the coil - I've replaced more than a few brand new coils after using only a tank or two of juice on account of leaking and that usually works fine. Leaking sub ohm coils are not that uncommon far as I know.

Always remember to close the airflow on your tank before taking the top off to fill, there is some suction action going on in there and closing the airflow before filling usually is all you need to do to stop it from leaking.

I vape a lot and started making my own e-juice some 6 or 8 months ago and currently vape all day on 3 different flavors I really like - blueberry muffin, lemon drop and a cling peach I can't get enough of. I make all my juice 3mg nic and it works for me just fine!

Hey.
As far as your leaks go, check the bottom of the coil. Occasionally you will get a coil that has the end of a leg of one of the heating wires slightly protruding from beneath the red insulating rubber (yeah, quality control). Just push it under the rubber..carefully. If that is not the case, check your o ring for damage and the threads on the coil and Atty base. Actually, checking all the seals top and bottom is a good preventative maintenance thing to do.....

Salt seems to be the way to go to get off the stinkys. There are a TON of new devices that allow you to use your own salt juice to skip the pod systems. A ton of new salt juices are hitting the market.

Thanks for all the above advice.

After a LOT of incredibly frustrating moments and not wanting to replace the TFV12 after only a day of using it, I finally gave in and took the tank completely apart. I used a rolled up piece of toilet paper to wipe everything down inside. I think what happened was the cotton inside the coils somehow got a bit over saturated (probably from me puffing the thing too hard/repetitively and letting it get hot when I first started using it, which likely caused the liquid inside that was lubricating the coil to thin and leak out). So I used the toilet paper to dab around the cotton at the bottom of the coil until it looked less saturated. Then I screwed everything back together very carefully, taking care to not screw things too tight or too loosely.

Right away, the leaking stopped, so I think the guy that put it together at the shop either screwed up, or it was just the over saturation causing it.

Needless to say, I've been using it for a few days now, and I absolutely love it. My King Cake E-Juice came, and they also sent me 3 extra 10mL bottles completely free (I ordered from VapeWild), which was really awesome because I got to sample some others flavors. So for $10 (shipping included) I got 30mL of King Cake E-Juice (which tastes amazing, highly recommend), and 10mL "Mystery Feb18," "Tres Leches," and "Substance D." All three are pretty good, but none top the King Cake.

I am also happy to report that I've cut WAY back on smoking already. I went from smoking almost 2 packs (about 30-35) cigarettes a day to... well, I've smoked maybe 5 cigs today, and it's getting easier. Hoping to reduce that to 0 by the time my pack runs out.

Thanks for all the advice and recommendations. @ejuicely.com - I will look into the salt juice you mentioned, though I don't actually think I'll need it. I'm really enjoying this vaping thing, and 6mg of nic seems good for me right now. @RobN1 thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind for the future. Luckily, I didn't have to replace the coil (Even though I have 2 extras, I would've been pretty annoyed if I had to replace it right away as this is the "strongest" one in the pack of the cloud beast king).

I've done the toilet paper thing with success too, also tossed new coils, in fact I just tossed out a whole tank, a new Smok TFV8 that came with a mod I wanted because nothing would stop it from leaking, so now I only have like 6 or 8 different tanks left lol. My two favorite sub ohms are the TFV12 Prince and Valyrian. My #1 is my Drop rda.

But you did good to start with the setup you have, just keep it with you like you keep a pack of cigs with you and keep using it knowing it is giving you all the nic you need, at some point you will give up the stinkys altogether, just a matter of when.

Generally rubbing a little juice on the rubber O-ring and screw it in. Once its seated unscrew it and then screw it in, 1/4 turn past snug. If you shine a flashlight through the massive air hole and see any rippling in the rubber its too tight, if its curling into the shape of a pringle, its going to be a river. Back it off until its flat.

Also, I have experienced leaking when using 50/50 blend juice and running it hot. Seems to just saturate the cotton and drip out the bottom. For me running the minimum recommended wattage on the coil itself seems to be the sweet spot.

I think you realized something important when you understood that you could have been drawing too hard on your tank, which caused it to flood and leak. The balance of juice and air is important, almost like gas and air in the carburetors on older cars. With sub-ohm tanks you don't need to draw hard, but you do need to be sure to let plenty of air come through the tank and also into your mouth and lungs, basically around the mouthpiece of your tank.

Good luck and have fun with it!

Hi i know a very good online vaping shop in Australia. They have wide variety of vaping kits, mod and other accessories. And all of this is available at very affordable price.

Congrats on the new place & for quitting smoking. I really like smok's x-priv kit. It came with everything 2 different coils, one for flavor & one for bigger clouds and the price was pretty good. I found it for like $65. hope this helps

My mother is seeking to quit but wants me to find/set her up. I was thinking a single coil rta ontop of a simple to use stick mod that could run such a tank. Any ideas that are cheap/easy and wont blow up in her face? Kinda want mom to like vaping and it exploding wont help. whats a safe cheap mod that can be easily charged or single batteried..... or something. Think something super basic five click on no adjusments no screen just press to vape. Like a mech mod but with all the safeties a regulated mod.

Why not start a new thread, just for you and your mom. you could just copy your post if you wanted.
