Cotton.

So I purchased a new RTA this weekend. Along with a tool kit which came with a couple really thin pieces of cotton. I built everything up and got the best flavor I've ever experienced while vaping. (I'm new though). It was giving alot of spit back so I figured it was the lack of cotton in my build. When I got home, I re-wicked with some thicker cotton a buddy gave me. Now I was using this cotton in the previous RTA I had which was sometimes giving off a weird flavor. Almost a burned cotton flavor but not quite. And I immediately tasted this in my new RTA.

How much does cotton affect the taste??
What is a good cotton to use??

To be honest bud it's going to be some trial and error, and there are some days I don't get it spot on to this day. A lot of it is feel, but it's all part of the journey.

I'll agree with everyone else, Cotton Bacon v2 will be the most forgiving especially starting out new. It's all I use today.

What atty are you building on?

Also what coils are you using currently?

RTAs I tend to really comb out the ends and take my time to ensure my tails are fluffy and go in straight into my channels without just cramming it in. I try to get the cotton in the channel with the least amount of force possible. Kinks and sharp bends in the cotton fibers reduce capillary action and won't feed your coil as well.

If you are moving your coil when feeding your cotton through, you are using too much. It's easier to start off with the cotton as fluffy as possible before inserting as I find it helps me gauge if I put too much or too little in better. If you tightly roll the cotton and thread it, it will remain compressed but will also expand when wet and might be deceiving as to if you have the right amount. This last point however doesn't apply to Rayon as that's a different ball game.

And again, you'll get used to the feel of how much to use, and also what your tank works best with. Some RTAs I have really like the cotton on the lighter side. Very dependent on many things, air flow, coil height, chamber size, etc.

Geekvape Zeus.
Ahhh yes the Zeus. Cut your cotton so it barely hangs off the edge of the deck. Also really thin the tails with this guy, like almost 50% of the original. You can use a PIN or small sharp object to gently comb out the ends of the cotton. I'd say comb out the last few mm or so.

Yeah, I was taught to comb the ends out. As for the coils. Not 100% sure. Using coils that came with it. Looks like some kind of Clapton..

Hey I just wanted to offer a counter opinion to this. I mostly use rayon now but when I was still using cotton often I liked to wick most setups really tight. We know from Jurin's law capilarry action works better the tighter space your juice is being led through. On RTA's you want to thin out the tails as other people have mentioned here, but you may get better performance with thin tails but the cotton inside the coil tight.

Wicking tight in the coil also can help reduce spitback. It can also allow you to run at higher wattages because more juice is being delivered to the coils. It can add break in time though and on some setups wicking tight can mute flavor imo.

Man up! Build your own coil(s)! :) Just kidding! There's nothing better, than your coil(s) build by yourself. It's your choice of wire, and wicking material.

For me it always seems to mute the flavor a good bit if I have the coil stuffed, even with ends thinned. Still trying to nail down Rayon though lol.

Also the coils that come with attys usually are dirty as hell, might be wise to clean the crap out of it properly. That can lead to mad funko taste.

There are as many opinions about wicking material as there are about wires! Over all, the best is to try out every option available, and form your own opinion. After all, it's about you, and what you do prefer!

Well said. Every time you get a new atty you'll re-wick and recoil it 30 times to dial it in and spend most of the day on it. Well at least that is what happens to me anyway.

I wanted to buy a pack of premade before I started my voyage into diy coils. Lol just in case.
Check out advanced vape supplies if you planning on ss. They do have great and clean pre builts as well as pre made wire which you only would need to wrap around a jig or screwdriver. Quick shipping too and their customer service is quick, polite and very helpful. I recommend the staggered fused, quad core ore triple fused Clapton's in 316l. Haven't tried the 430 yet.

Free shipping on $20 and $25 orders as well as the current sale with everything 20% off using code "AVS" while you at it, pick up a pack of kendo cotton gold if not sold out. And no I'm not affiliated even tho this sounds like a commercial lol, just sharing my experience.
