Boba's Bounty

BB was, and probably still is, my favorite flavor of all time. I was devastated to find out a couple years ago that it was no longer being made. But, like so many others, I managed to move on and find other flavors I enjoyed (thanks mostly to DIY).

So a while back when I moved, I had thrown a bunch of vaping gear into a couple of boxes without paying much attention to what I was throwing.

Today I found an Innokin Ucan in one of those boxes, a relic from my early dripping days five or six years back. If you don't know what a Ucan is, it's a small, airtight stainless steel canister with a plunger-style button on the back that you use to dispense liquid to a RDA. Not even sure if Innokin makes them anymore, but it was (and still is) a really handy little device for dripping on the go.

I was stoked to find it, but that's not the exciting part. Upon opening it, I was greeted with a familiar honey-graham-cracker aroma that teleported my mind back to my first days vaping.

There's like 2 ml of the ORIGINAL Boba's Bounty in it. Not the shit that Boba's became when the flavors changed. This is the original formula. Yeah, it's several years old, but it's been hermetically sealed in SS. The color is right. The aroma is right. For all intents and purposes, this stuff is ready to vape.

And I have no idea what the hell I should do with it.

send it to HIC to get the perfect clone

No kidding. If anyone could do it, it'd be him.

Hey retrox, seriously, you should ask HIC if he'd try and pay him for his expertise. Or track down some other master mixers and ask them. It's a very good idea and one worth trying.

Hi @Heartsdelight ! Yeah, I'm good. Just lost a hard drive with a couple hundred recipes (no back up because I stoopid). Been busy re-building my flavoring catalog. Thankfully I know all of my ADV recipes by heart, but I lost a lot of "experimental" data and that kind of makes me sad. Life goes on.

One of my experimental recipes was one that I've been chipping away at off and on for a couple years, and it was based on a BB clone recipe I found online that was almost reasonably close. Unfortunately I could only tweak it from memory, as I didn't have any of the original stuff on hand for a side-by-side comparison. Miraculously, now I do. Seeking another mixer's input could be valuable, though.

@HeadInClouds would certainly be one of my top picks for unraveling this flavor. There are a few super-tasting mixers on reddit I'm aware of as well. But supplies are definitely limited, so there's that to consider lol...

I've decided I'm going to drip just a bit of it tonight to verify the flavor integrity of the juice, and then decide what to do with it afterwards. Part of me hopes it's gone bad so I can stop stressing over it haha...

Hi @Heartsdelight@HeadInClouds would certainly be one of my top picks for unraveling this flavor.

I have a bottle of Boba's in my freezer - it's a couple years old, I think. I wasn't too fond of it but set out to identify the components. There was a Chinese flavoring I got from ecx (a "Flavor Express" flavoring...or was it "Tobacco Express") that I'm convinced accounts for about half the recipe. There's just no way it wasn't a major component. I have notes and that bottle of flavoring from ecx buried somewhere, but don't know if that'd be of any help; I don't think ecx still has those... Anyway, I never continued searching for the rest because I just didn't like vaping it all that much.

I’m glad you are otherwise well :) I’m sorry you lost all your hard work  . Thankfully you know all your ADV’s. Here’s a hug from me to you

You probably have "Black Mile" or "Black Mile Plus," hic. There are a couple more variants on the name, and a few more DIY vendors who sell it. It is absolutely a primary component in BB or, at the very least, a capable substitute for an actual ingredient therein. VapingZone was my first DIY vendor, and at the time they only stocked alcohol-based Chinese flavorings. They called theirs "Black & Mild," which was later changed, I would assume to avoid conflict with the maker of the actual cigars. It was among the first order of flavorings I ever placed back in 2011.

At that time, BB was about the only thing I vaped along with a couple of other tobaccos from Johnson Creek. I knew that flavoring was in BB the moment I uncapped it. I'm also relatively certain there's a NET in there, as the proprietor of Alien Visions informed fans that a 0 mg version of BB/GJ was not possible. I think that NET is what was discontinued.

While I've gotten close with a good base using Black Mile, the top notes in BB have proven impossible for me to nail down. There's a distinct flavor of sweet bran that I fear may be characteristic of the missing NET, possibly from a honey flue-cured tobacco.

I was going to vape a bit of this tonight, but unfortunately didn't get around to building a worthy platform for it. Last time I vaped BB was on mesh in a Genny, and I can't imagine how much I might love it on cotton. And the last thing I want is to fall in love with this damn flavor all over again, especially since it will soon be lost to the ages.

I'd at least try it. Then I would try it again and if I didn't go blind, I'd finish it.

Honey graham cracker, yeh? I've been vaping something called honey mellow by 80v for the last week or so that might be similar.
