Ive had poor luck with smok mods and was wondering how others experiences have been with smok mods. I like the way they are setup but scared to purchase another due to them not holding up. Plus Smok has awful C.S.

I have heard of others complaining about QC issues as well.

I have the first 200 watt box they made (just a regular rectangular box with a DNA200 looking screen) that works great.

Then I won a Smok Skyhook RDTA Box all in one device and the tank started leaking into the circuit board and batteries on the second fill up.
It is a total piece of junk but I won it so I can't really complain.

Sounds kinda like my experience but nothing leaked. I did the firmware update and it never turned on again. Thanks for sharing, I've pretty much came to the conclusion that they are junk and lucky to get more than a month or 2 out of their mods

Is there any way to downgrade to the old firmware?

I think I have heard of someone else on the forum that had the same problem and they said that there is no old firmware.

You should definitely hold on to the mod for when they release a newer firmware.

Which one do you have?

I have an Alien and an AL85. Both work and look fine, with the paint remaining all intact for ? 6 months now (within a month of release date). However, my experience is not the same as those who did have paint issues. It is some sorta QC problem, and until that's addressed I'd be wary. I got lucky.

BTW, if you want to use it for TC, move on. It's not really usable, at least for my TC expectations.

The newer SMOK mods seem to be better quality and finish. I never really had any trouble with them. The new TPriv with the led lights and big baby beast tank is really nice and the paint is really good. They seem to be the ones coming out with the newest stuff the quickest. Sigelei has been making some good stuff lately also. Check this new sigelei mod coming out now. LED lights seems to be the new thing for everyone lately https://breazy.com/products/kaos-z-200w-box-mod-sigelei This is going to be at the upcoming show

Well my alien quit working today I bought it in January if this year and today. I put one of my goon rda's on it and and it have me ohms to low warning with a 0.15 ohm build in it. So I took the battery's out and took the goon off and put new battery's in and put my tfv8 tank on it and the same thing happened. Then the mod turned off and now it won't turn back on at all . And the paint sucked and chipped very bad . Smoke needs to step up there Quality control department

I have an X Cube II that I still use almost daily. Also have the Stick V8 kit and the T-Priv kit. Never had any issues with any of them. That being said, they are nothing but mass produced, cheap electronics. At the rate they flood the market with their products, there are bound to be some faulty production issues. Their customer service is a joke, so it's a risk you take with their products.

To me they try to push out to many products way to fast with out making sure they are putting out a good quality products on the market. They are cheap products and you get what you pay for with them it's a waiting game till they die on you.

i bought the kooper plus or 200 or whatever it was...it died in 3 moths, the board just stopped working completely
havent bothered with smok since
every time i read on here about smok products i see nothing but complaints in the long run.
just look for threads on beast tanks and the complaints about coils burning up so quickly
or aliens that just stop working
to me they are just not durable enough

I own an alien, H-Priv, xcube ultra, T-Priv, G-Priv and an osub. Not had a single problem with any of them but the Xcube ultra is definitely my favourite one.
I really like the T-Priv & the paintwork is certainly better than the alien but not used it long enough to say. However the fact it came with the big baby that is my favourite tank I couldn't really turn it down.
They work well in power mode but as alot of people know TC isn't the best.
As I don't use TC I don't really mind.
@redheadturk I might end up getting the kaos myself if they still have it on pay day :)

I had an Alien that had a battery door that kept unlatching. Got a vendor credit and replaced it with a Sigelei Kaos which I have been very happy with.

The battery door on the alien is crap & my first one the screen went black. The second alien is doing okay but still has issues. I'm getting a kaos myself, for exact same reason. Too replace my Alien, has a similar form factor but hopefully will be less problematic.

The door on the Xcube ultra is also a huge pro, it is a magnetic one.
The doors with latches on the bottom can be very poor an slide open if not made correctly

sounds like you bricked it. my brother was going to update his g priv, until he found out you have to hold the fire bar down the entire time. apparently if you release the fire bar at any time during the upgrade it will brick it. i wonder who at smok thought that was a good idea?

Good idea I've never had to update then, the Xcube ultra my most used smok mod came with latest firmware & the G-Priv I've just never had to update.

I have had my alien since Dec 6th... My all day mod and never once had a problem that cleaning it up a little didn't fix. :) I love the little guy <3 But, if paint is the only thing stopping you from buying it then I guess you don't really want it. I mean you can get a wrap for it and mine is about due for one as I am super klutzy and have just about knocked all the paint off from drops! :p:p:p:facepalm:

:sarcasm: You all should just call me "Grace"... My mama does! :cuss:

From my experience, including customers, Smok has improved the paint on the Aliens, I know I've abused mine pretty good, and had no issues. The ProColor Is really cool too. Full Color, LED's galore, and a Big Baby Beast... And ECC has some good stuff in store.

And that Kaos Z @Breazy_Com posted should be cool, soon! Plus Sigelei has another fun one coming!

https://cloudypeakvapes.com/products/sigelei-mt-220w-kit-with-revolvr-tank-4ml

I personally really dig the Kaos... the LED's got me, I admit it. I don't get as excited about mods these days, but everyone is really putting some stuff out that looks cool. I always have to try them too. And I think a lot of companies are starting to realize the impact of releasing things too fast... They still bombard us, but I hope I'm right. I see more time taken, and delays occurring occasionally, but I take that as a good sign, if it means it's done to fix production.

I've had this discussion frequently lately, and I get and respect all opinions. Solely speaking from experience. I didn't start carrying Smok until the Alien. I'm newer still to this game as a retailer. I believe the paint has been fixed, since I've not received a single complaint. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen though. I always say this with slight hesitance, but from my constant reading and learning, we truly are getting something in our paws that is rather complicated for the price. No excuse at all for failures, it's just true. Again, I remember the iPV 4, I bought and retired mine in weeks. My observations and the word I hear is that P4You is no longer "beta testing" mods on us as they used to be accused of, and in situations, rightfully so. The iPV 4 was a complete mess. But they've killed it with the Eclipse. YIHI gave them an incredible chipset, it's another level from anything P4You has put out IMO.

Nowadays, I carry a ton of Smok products. Personally, for the price point, I think they make a nice device. I love their tanks, for tanks. Not to say there aren't duds, but when you realize how long the Alien has been around, and they still make new colors and sell, that means a TON are in the wild. I won't for a second excuse a poor product, not at all, and I recognize that real issues have occurred. I solely speak from my experiences and I know that is far from representative to the whole vaping world. Smok and P4You made some missteps, as did Sigelei. I for one, have been impressed with what they've put out recently. And the chips are getting re-freshed a bit, which is good. For power at least, I had no complaints.

I guess I just remember paying $120 bucks for an iPV3 (still works just fine BTW) and thinking it was a steal... $1 a watt was revolutionary. Devices need to work, and hold up for a respectable amount of time, I suppose I just see the value in what we get. And, I try to avoid the stuff that sucks. Bad for you all and me.

I say give everything a chance, and that starts with reading, asking questions as you are, and watching reviews. That is the best way to make up your mind in this saturated market. I can assure you there's a mod for you out there, It's a good time for vaping in that regard... I hope you find something you like!

The leds on the T-Priv are better than the kaos and I prefer it to the kaos with the crappy leather sticker. Don't like the kaos much!

I have had a Koopor Plus, Koopor Mini, and Alien. All of them died just a few months after I got them. I like the Smok tanks especially the Big Baby Beast but would not buy another one of their mods.

I have the Koopor Plus, Knight Plus Kit and Stick One Plus I haven't opened yet. My sister was here and bought a Stick One Plus. She's a MTL. The resistance is too low for her even though we cut the air flow way down. She's looking for 1.2 or 1.5 coils. So no, I haven't tried a SMOK mod yet. The tanks are quite good.

I'm an RDA guy. But I've had to make myself get into some newer tanks and now some newer rebuildable tanks... It's gotten way better than Kayfuns, lol. But I will 100% agree that for consistency across the board, Smok makes great tanks. YMMV, but I get good coil life too, but thats kinda juice dependent... I know some have issues, but I've never had any leaking either. That impresses me alone.

Had H-Priv a year, alien 8 months, xcube ultra 3 months, G-Priv 8 months, osub 80 watt a year. Just got a T-Priv and they are all flawless. The Xcube is the most solid one but I find it too boxy. Older smok mods had bbs (big bulky syndrome.) The alien is my favourite an feels good in the hand. The paint is also find on it & it came with version b so no issues an had no need to update it!
Overall I think smok do good mods, TC isn't supposed to be the best but as I mainly use wattage mode they do the job for me! :)

I have G-Priv and a GX350. I have no real issues with either. They do TC well with Ni200, they're reasonably well made for the price point, and they never crapped out on me in any way. But then I'm a careful owner, and having so many mods to choose from, I don't use them constantly

I was gonna get the GX350 but I'm going with rx300 and it's good to have so many mods. Don't use alot of mine though, they are just backups to me...

I'm one of those guys that never had a problem with Smok products. I have only two mods a Smok R80tc and an Alien 220. Both work perfectly and I've never had a problem. The R80tc is coming up a year old in October and the Alien will be a year old in Feb. I also have a TFV4 micro tank that is the beez-knees.

I don't use the TFV4S as much now but I have two minis, two micros and two full sized ones. The micro ones are best. I could never work out why they brought out a micro, a micro V2 and a mini!

Careful with the 510 on Wismec stuff. I was going to trade some stuff locally for an RX300, but the 510 was stuck on it when we met. Same problem I have on an RX 2/3 that I've taken really good care of.

Did you hold the fire button the whole time during firmware update???? I have heard if you dont then then it can result into bricking the device. Im pretty cautious about upgrading firmware seems to be kinda dangerous from what i have heard

All my stuff is smok. I have the v8 stick still kicks some butt the fire button sticks a smidge but not bad. Then i have the v8 stick mini witch still is good no prob with the button. Then the gx 2/4 no prob with that. really like that mod cuz of the two bat feature to. And then fainally the alien witch has been flawless expecept for the paint. But what is some paint missing? Shows its used and works and is used a lot

Just get a wrap for it, although personally paint has been fine on my Alien for a good few months. How do you like the GX2/4??
It's on my wish list but won't be buying another mod till end of year.
I use an aspire archon, wismec rx300, T-Priv, G-Priv and alien in rotation. Use my Xcube ultra sometimes too so quite a big smok fan myself an love the fire bars!

I love that sucker. I got it cuz of the 4 batt mode. G4 is what its been nicknamed and its seen the ground atleast 8 times and still has more paint then the alien fits nice in the hand big foot print (hard to tip over) its like holding 2 aliens in the same hand with all them batts at your disposal. Witch is really nice when its an 8 hour work day with no charger in sight and its fireing daul stagered fused claptons at .115 ohms

That's strange. I've had 2 Smok Alien 220's quit on me within 6 months. My IPV 400's still work after a year. The Aliens also stayed at home. The IPV's went to work and have been drooped a few times.
I also had a Smok Stick that the USB port took a shit on. Couldn't charge it anymore after 3 weeks. Wouldn't make the connection unless I held it in a certain position.
I have had great luck with the IPV's but not the Smok mods. I still use the BBB tanks though. Never had a problem with them.
