New to RDAs

I have an Aspire Pegasus (with a IMR 18650 battery) of which putting a new atomiser on it it asks which type of metal including Kanthal, Nickel (I think), and Titanium. Do I need to have those specific coil types within the RDA to be safe or make it work?

I also have an iStick power mod which just allows you to set the wattage and that's really it. Would it be wise to use this mod?

I'm also wondering which type of metal/coil to get which suits the RDA best of which is a Wolfteeth RDA clone.

I also see that prebuilt coils have a size of sorts? for example 24 AWG or 22 AWG. Not sure what that means.

Thanks for any help that's provided and any information on RDA's is very helpful.

if you do not know what 24awg means
you need to do much more research
AWG is a refereance to the diameter of the wire
smaller number larger diameter

kanthal and nichrome must be use din power mode
stainless tell can be use din power or temp control modes
nickel and titanium are only temp control modes

different metals heat up differently and may taste different to you

you are on the right track asking questions here
ill let someone with more time and patience explain tthis stuff in greater detail

But i think you shoulod strat with understanding what power mode is versus temp control mode on your pegasus

Thanks for the reply. Every bit of information is a great help! I'll look into power mode and temp control much more.

once you understand that you should understand about half teh stuff you need to know about deciding what wires to build on or use
the other half is why use SS versus kanthal in power mode
or why use nichrome instead of kanthal
or why use kanthal and nichrome mixed together

Like he said^ research on metal /coils and understand ohms law. Each metal be different at Temps. And some gives off each there own 'tasting' per say. Once you understand metal and coils and wraps you'll do just fine.

Power mode is more simpler. Temp mode I never used it. Kanthal is best to start off since it would last longer. You can buy pre-built coils, each ohms they give off is an avg - /+ of it. So be weary on that. High the ohm reading (0.4+) would heat up quicker. Lower readings (0.35-) would need higher wattage to ramp up. Why? Some people like got flavor, there fore lower wattage so then able to produce the flavor then vapor. Other with lower resistance would want it for clouds. Now that's all suggestive in my opinion.

Presently, I am using 26 AWG (AWG means American Wire Gauge, it is similar to Imperial Measurement versus Metric) A1 Kanthal. A1 means the wire has been annealed once, annealing is the process of heating the wire to burn out impurities, it is also a denotation of being premium grade.

I wrapped the wire around a mandrel which gives an inner diameter of 3.5 mm. I used two wraps giving me a rough 0.25 (R) Ohms ~+/-0.02. For me subjectively, the clouds are kind of nice but I'm not much of a cloud chaser. Like the flavor and what I'm doing coil wise with this coil gives flavor well.

Being new to building coils, I suggest you not immediately try sub ohming at low ohms. You may want to not go any lower than 0.60(R) Ohms. Please use an independent volt / ohm meter to test your coil builds before using them on a mod. Once you start becoming confident your building experience you might slip this step or it may become second nature and you continue doing it out of holding to being safe.

Look up Mooch's Battery Safety in any decent search engine to get a better understanding of Ohm's Law, battery safety, battery ratings and a guide as to what coil builds you might use. Also check out Steam Engine vaping calculator as it can be a guide to how to build coils. I'm sure others might offer you better information, or more in depth but I also feel I'm giving you some good advice here. Once you get familiar in building you can look into going to lower ohm rated coil/s setups.

Always go slow and take baby steps until you find what works well for yourself. Be cautious with your batteries, external or internal. Don't be terrified by the fear porn in the media about exploding batteries, yes it can happen but if you exercise some basic common sense and responsibility you are generally safe. Do not use Efest batteries as Efest has a history of bad business practices which compromises their product quality and then by extension its safety for use.

Welcome to RDAs & coil building. Be sure to check out the building threads here for more information and a good place to get advice. Hope you come to enjoy using RDA & building. :)

Given the same type of wire... lower AWG means lower resistance per inch/mm. So carries current better so requires more watts to heat.

You can play around here to see what the differences are between gauge (awg) and wire type. http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.html?

Worse comes to worse.. just copy the address of the coil you intend to build and post it here.. someone will let you know if you are ok or give suggestions on how to improve. You can do this without wasting any wire too!

Hello I am new to Rdas,
Can you please help.
I want to safely use my therion 166 with twisted messes 24 rda.
My minimum resistance is 0.15 in wattage mode.
0.08 in Temperature control mode.

I have 2 kenthal/nichrome coils clocking in at 0.08ohm.

I've been using this in Temperature control mode but don't have a preset. Is this safe?

If not can anyone tell me some premade coils I can purchase that would be best for my setup, i have been vaping for around 3 years now and really look for flavor over clouds and why I switched to rda's

Thank you

This is my setup

You won't be able to do temp Control on kanthal the DNA board will be just forever using the wattage to heat the coil but it doesnt change the screen unless you are tricking it in escribe
