DIY in canada? Where do I go?

@chuck333 bought a bunch of stuff from them and I think the shipping was pretty standard. I think his order was around $120 and he paid around $15 (if I remember correctly) for shipping to Ontario.

Chuck? You out there? I know.... it's summer in Canada :p

$15 shipping (for 2 liters) is ok since their base prices are waay cheaper than dashvapes, brokevaper or vapetime.

I bought a litre of PG from bestglycol for $9. Their flavours are mostly TPA and are $2 for 10ml $4 for 30ml & $6 for 60ml. They have 4 litre jugs of VG for $20. Their nic prices aren't the best but a 500ml bottle of 100 strength at $75 is 0k. For $150 you can mix a lot of juice if you don't do what I did, spend $100 on flavours. The shipping cost is about the same as any other place and I ordered on a Thursday and got my parcel on Monday. (Que. To Ont.) Sorry @ceecee. I'm at my trailer and we have no WiFi. My data is almost gone.

Oh sorry i forgot. Your guna need some 18ga blunt end syringes in varying capacity. 1ml for nic. 3ml, 5ml, and 10ml are the best for everything else Aliexpress.com has them for stupid cheap. Some graduated cylinders and a set of beakers help too. And youll feel a little like breaking bad if thats your kind of thing

I also just found a source for 60 Ml syringes, with molded tips that are perfect for dispensing VG. Dirt cheap for a 2 pack at Princess Auto.

I always apply clear packing tape to the exterior of my syringes, over the graduation markings. This prevents the markings from wearing off over time.

I've never bought VG or PG from the Broke Vaper but he does carry quality goods so I imagine it's top quality. I usually buy my VG and PG from Co-op Coco and it is top quality but pricey compared to Best Glycol from Quebec.

I did a ton of research on VG about 2 years ago. Here is the deal. 95% of the USP VG sold in North America is all made by the same company.

As long as the VG carries the USP marking/cert, (United States Pharmacy) it is guaranteed 99.9% pure. Do not worry about whether or not the glycerin/glycerol is animal, or vegetable sourced, in order to have the USP label, it MUST vegetable glycerol.

Bottom line, if you are purchasing your Glycerine with a USP designation in Canada, or the US, it will be Vegetable Glycerine, with a 95% probability of origin from the same plant.

I got into a lengthy discussion a while ago with some DIY people who swore by "kosher VG". All
"kosher VG" is is the same stuff, prayed over by a Rabbi, and much more expensive.

In fairness, I've never tried it, so who knows, perhaps Rabbinical prayers make it taste better. Throw it in a gas chromatograph however, and there will be more variance due to the container, than the VG.

I bought the organic cotton balls at Shopper's in the cosmetics area. One ball will wick your atomizer at least two times. They're $4.99 for 100 balls.

Shopper's also has Shiseido organic cotton sheets ($11), which lasts a lifetime ... can't tell the difference, taste-wise, from the Quo balls ... might wick better on certain attys since sheets are relatively standardized and fibers look consistently longer.

How many times can you freeze/thaw your nic? Just once?

I've been thawing (in fridge) and refreezing my NicSelect 48mg on demand ... no change in color or taste.

I thaw my nic and refreeze as necessary. I have some 100ml bottles frozen - I thaw them out, take about 30ml out and refreeze. Not a problem.

I make 3mg 50/50 PG/VG 120ml batch (then keep refrigerated) that I further dilute in final DIY mixes

I just ordered 4 litres of VG, 4 - 30ml bottles of flavour & 8 - 60ml bottles of flavour from www.BestGlycol.com. The total was $84. With S&H ($17.65 [bulk]) & taxes ($13.21), it was $114.86.
So $30.86 went to the government &/or a crown corporation.
I swear if we had no taxes to pay we could get by on 1/4 of what we make now. Well at least we're not paying $10 per pack of smokes in taxes anymore.

True dat!

$114 worth of smokes wouldn't have lasted me very long at all. Makes me wonder how many thousands of dollars I pissed away on cig's over the 41 years that I smoked.

(no... I don't even want to think about it!)

The government's will tell you that they aren't recouping the cost of health care from smokers when they charge the exhorbitant taxes that they do on tobacco. That's just a bold faced lie. People who don't smoke get sick too. They get cancer, suffer from heart desease and ultimately they will require medical attention and will die too. The government is dependant on tobacco too. They don't want people to quit really. That's why many countries have taken a harsh position on vaping. Vaping cuts into their bottom line. With the legalization of m*rijuana coming in a year's time the government has effectively painted themselves into the corner with vape. They can't legalize m*rijuana and then come down hard on vapers. The biggest reason for the legalization of m*rijuana is the thirst for tax revenues that have all but dried up with tobacco. Don't be surprised if the government imposes a lot of new taxes on vape, vape equipment and liquid nicotine by time they finish kicking bill S5 around. Don't be surprised if, when the pot dealer down the street is out of business because he can't compete with legal outlets, the price of m*rijuana skyrockets to double what he was charging. It's all about ways to fish around in our pockets. That's what government, especially Liberal government is all about. They spend your money like a sailor on a weekend pass and come back for more. Then they use our money to conduct an add campaign telling us what a great job they're doing.
I smoked a pack a day for almost 50 years. At today's rate I'm thinking that would be a lot of money. 50x365x$9 is about $165000.

That amount of smoke would last me 9 days. One liter of nic for about the same price, 4.5 years. I am stocked up and don't really care what the government does.

If I buy 8 litres of VG at $40 plus 1 litre of PG at $9 plus 1/2 litre of nice at $75 plus 8 x 500 ml of flavours at $32 a piece I have fixings enough to make over11 litres of juice. That's well over 4 years supply and the cost, with taxes, is under 29 cents per day, including taxes. Some of those half litres of flavours are enough for 30 years. Realistically you would only buy 60 or 120 ml of those bringing the price per day down accordingly.

Agree with former, strongly disagree with latter. Tax revenue is a big side benefit. Spending less on policing and impacts on judicial system are the big savings. Don't want thread to become OT politics, so we can simply agree to disagree.

If you freeze them, shelf life is around a decade, about 2 yrs refrigerated, 1 yr in cool dark room, 6 months average room temp and 2 days on hot car dashboard. Fortunately, with fading flavors, you can just add more to compensate.

60 ml of 48 mg NicSelect = 2880 mg.

At my current 0.3 mg/ml usage that's 9600 ml which should last me 2.6 years at 10 ml/day; in 2 years, I hope to be near 0 mg/ml.

I''m pretty close to being fully stocked too - I might grab one more liter of nic, I might not. I already have 2+ liters on hand and that's going to last me at least 15 years I figure. If I dial my nic back to 2 mg it'll last even longer. I've already got more mods, RTA's and RDA's than I'll probably ever use.

Right now I'm just gonna keep my ear to the ground and see what the gubermint decides with regards to vaping.

I use 100mg nic and am at about 4mg strength. If I buy 500ml at $75 that would mix 12.5 litres. I use 30ml in 4 days so 12.5 litres would go me about 4.5 years, same as c flakes. Maybe by then I'll be dialed back to zero too, or too old to remember that I used to vape.

Without any doubt at all. All the things that have were "immoral" Booze, smokes, gambling, look who runs those, and profits most from them now. Even prostitution. Not illegal to sell sex in Canada, and therefore taxable. Buying it of course, is a criminal offence. For which they collect fines.

They don't want people to quit really. That's why many countries have taken a harsh position on vaping. Vaping cuts into their bottom line. With the legalization of m*rijuana coming in a year's time the government has effectively painted themselves into the corner with vape. It's all about ways to fish around in our pockets.

I watched the Senate hearings regarding legalization of w**d some years ago. Senator Tommy Banks, whom I've known since I was a child, summarized by saying that the challenge as he perceived it would be to undercut and remove profit from street dealers, by setting prices that they could not match. Then, maximize profits once they are gone, and implement penalties sufficiently harsh to keep the street dealers gone.

This was a man, and musician I had respected. I was left a little broken, hearing him discuss the issue, like he was a bona fide member of the Medellín Cartel. (BTW, Escobar and Ochoa's nieces and nephews have since graduated from the U of A, and are back in Columbia I hear.)

The coalition countries encouraged the Afghanistan farmers to begin growing the poppies again, after xxium production had been stamped out by the Taliban. Probably a coincidence that shortly after, h*roin began hitting the streets of Europe and North America cheaper, and purer than ever before. Winning hearts and minds...

Hearts and minds. Two things politicians do not posses.

I'm going to be in Toronto in a couple of weeks. Is there a place near downtown where I can walk in and buy a bottle of nicotine? Dash Vapes only sells nic online. Preferably I'd like 100 strength. I'd like to avoid the shipping charges if possible.

The Broke Vaper is in Markham... that's about it for Toronto that I know of other than Dashvapes.

Dashvapes should get their shit together and start offering 100mg.

What about that guy at the flea market in Mississauga?

You can go to DashVapes store in Markham and buy the 48mg NicSelect there ... I've done it a few times and they have stock right now.

With BrokerVaper, you need to order online and select pickup option; when you get email confirmation that your order is ready (can take up to 48 hours), call their sales number for when you can schedule pickup. They are a small business and not a 24/7 operation, so be patient and try to call them only between 10am-5pm EST.

With CanVapes (flea market outlets) you need to order online and select flea market store for pickup (Sunday only) ... never ordered from them; there is also an unspecified surcharge for pickup ... 20% or more.

Why is DIY so difficult in this regard. You can walk into a vape shop and select from a variety of juices, kits, mods, tanks etc no problem. Vape shops are springing up on every corner. Getting VG, PG, nic, flavours, syringes, scales etc for DIY is not that simple. Is it? Even stores that specialize in DIY are never fully equipped. In a city like Toronto, the largest in Canada and fourth largest in Canada & the U.S. you would think it would be easy to get whatever you need, not so. The best DIY sources are in more remote places and conduct business by mail order. Even buying decent dropper bottles is a two month process. I find it all a bit strange.

I think this has a lot to do with the legal grey area that vaping falls into currently in Canada. This is also why I just go ahead and buy my nic by the liter. I got tired of ordering 250ml or 500ml here and there as I needed it. Plus, not knowing where Bill S-5 is going, I want to be stocked up on the one thing that could literally disappear overnight.

Margins on DIY supplies are around 20%-30%, so one needs to keep costs waay down to remain viable. Margins on retail/ commercial e-juice are huge; $1 DIY supplies = $15 retail e-juice. 1500% margin. See ..

http://vapingunderground.com/threads/how-much-for-your-30ml-of-diy-e-juice.346519/#post-1850157

As such, DashVapes is only fully stocked at their Markham DC (distribution center/ warehouse); their branches sell only e-juice and retail hardware. 180smokes, with ambitious retail locations in malls, sells only e-juice. Small businesses (with DIY supplies) like BrokeVaper and VapeTime are both DC and retail outlet in one.

Correct me if wrong but this is my understanding of Bill S-5. Unlike US FDA, that will require approval for e-juice and related products, Bill S-5 is primarily a ban on advertising and packaging.

https://gowlingwlg.com/en/canada/in...ter-in-tobacco-product-advertising-regulation

So unless I'm missing something in the details, Bill S-5 is trying to strike a balance; it will allow vaping (particularly for smoke cessation) but discourage new business (youth vaping). Since it discourages new business, revenues will be strangled and the growth of vape shops will suffer; it won't kill our vape industry (for those with low costs), but prices (for us) may indeed go up to keep vape shops alive. In the US, Big Tobacco wants to be the only player by influencing what gets approved by the FDA ... not so here (for now). JMHO

You are correct.... for now. Everything looks rosy and peachy on the surface.... but just wait.... wait until it's passed into law before we do any celebrating. I'm hedging my bets, just in case ;)

When I initially read Bill S-5 last year I was heartened - it wasn't perfect but it wasn't what the FDA or the EU were doing. Now, after the rounds of Senate hearings and some changes, I'm not so optimistic anymore.

Like I said, I'm keeping my ear to the ground and I'll buy more nic as (or if) necessary.

Princess Auto also has cheap O-rings of all sizes that can come in handy for repairing attys.

Princess Auto has LOTS of cool stuff. I bought some inert depth charges in the surplus section there some years ago. CanadianNavy grey watertight drums with the explosives removed. Still had the stencils identifying them as CF depth charges plainly visible. They floated since they were empty. $7 apiece. I Heard a couple were found floating in the Yacht Club marina.... Woke up a judge who was sleeping in his cabin, as they banged against his hull. :xD: Phone calls were made.

Good time had by all. EOD guys got a helo ride from the base, area was cleared for most of the day, allowing them to have a nice BBQ at the facility.

Can't exactly remember what I used mine for.

They could be handy to divide those 4 liter jugs of VG down to a more manageable size. :D

In a pinch, I thoroughly clean and reuse 1 liter juice bottles consumed by my family ... as long as the recycle symbol (at bottom) is #2, #4 or #5 ...
  • #2 HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) ... same as Princess Auto bottle; safest for reuse.
  • #4 LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) ... same as most squeezable e-juice bottles
  • #5 PP (Polypropylene) ... considered very safe for reuse.

Well, me myself, I wouldn't be needing anymore 1 liter bottles. I have so many kicking around here from when I was still buying PG and VG one liter at a time that I have lots of spares kicking around when the 4 liter jugs come in.

In fact, I have too many.... but hang on to them just in case. This DIY thingie has really gotten out of hand for me. :ejuice:

I ordered 6 LG-HG2 from TBV. They were $11 each. With the 15% off, $9.35 each (no HST). Each one was shipped packed inside a 60ml unicorn bottle. It's not a bad deal from a Canadian dealer. Ordered on Friday got them today.

Hey guys stepping into DIY this month and planned on getting my concentrates from diyejuicesupply.com but their site has been down for over a month. Says it's down for maintenance for a few days? Are they done for? Seemed to have a great selection and the option to get 10ml's now I'm stuck gettting 30ml's at $6-$10 at dashvapes. Not the most economical way for a newb to get his feet wet I must say.
