Beginning cloud chasing

Just had a couple basic questions and need opinions pls.

So i want to start getting into cloud chasing and after doing some reading i would like to get opinions on the set up i wanted to go with and anything i may be missing that you could point out wpuld be great.

Reg mod: Kanger KBOX 200W Temp control
Tank: Atlantis V2
Batteries: MXJO 18650 X 2

Thx for any help on this matter

Just my $.02
Gonna sound like a naysayer here. But I would go a completely different route to cloud chase.

The batteries first and foremost are bad. No way to sugar coat it. If you only take one of my reccommendations, take this one. Only buy batteries from sony, LG, samsung. Sony vtc5a are a good balance of amp rating and mah.

Tanks can be "cloud chasers", but really want something in the 24mm plus range. Atlantis is an absolute "flavor chase" tank.

An rda would be a better choice to "cloud chase."

Personally not a fan of kanger products. Just my experience. Hohm wrecker g2 is a mod i would recommend to anyone. My absolute favorite. And seems to be a favorite to the experienced builders. Hits like a mech mod. Great chip.

Good luck and sorry for disagreeing with your whole setup.

If you want a Hohmwrecker G2, here is a link:

http://www.vaporcube.com/best-selle...wrecker-171w-temperature-control-box-mod.html

Use discount code: G2FLASHx2 to get it for about $65 plus shipping.

As for an rda, go to the cloud chasing section of the forum and do some reading or just ask for recommendations. Just be prepared to get a bunch of answers. My first thought is Twisted Messes Squared, but there are plenty of other options.

And don't be shy about trying a clone to see if you like something before you shell out big bucks foar a premium rda.;)

I wanted to pseudo cloud chase and watched a bunch of reviews on different things. Basically what I came up with was that RDA's are indeed better for cloud chasing. I bought a tank that looked like it would blow some clouds (Blazer Pro). Comparatively it did to my old setup. BUT I just got a goon RDA in the mail today and threw in a pair of claptons. Mind you, I bought this for flavor so I only have 2 of the 3 air holes open, it blows clouds much denser and larger on a similar ~3 second draw than that tank could dream of.

EDIT: Also raising the vg level of your juice will produce bigger clouds. I went to 90% VG in the tank and rda and the rda still wins.

How exactly does one pseudo cloud chase? Do you just let the clouds chase you away from competition? :giggle:

I'd describe it as wanting to blow clouds with no intention of competing, and flavor still playing a large factor rather than simply blowing the largest cloud possible.

I was only joking of course. In fact your description closely matches how I like to vape most of the time.

Well, as BKTOAD said, get the recommended batteries. The ones you are are badly misrepresented and should not be trusted. The brands we recommend are accurately represented on the labels and stats sheets, as well as MOOCH performs numerous tests, which are handy for cloud chasers.

So first off.. for clouds.. you want an RDA (drip atomizer) with a large bore tip, lots of air flow, and post holes large enough to handle larger builds.

Here is a nice cloud chasing build for your mod (on the RDA)..
use 2 strands of 24g kanthal and do 5 wraps (parallel coil) or use 2 strands of 24g nichrome 7 wraps on a 3.0 mm id core. I recommend trying the kanthal first, since your coil will basically be 10 coils wide. (5 wraps x2 wires) a dual coil set up will come out to 0.12 ohm, perfectly fine for your regulated mod. Don't even bother with worrying about mechanical mods at this point. The regulated will give you bigger clouds and be safer.

MutationX V4 is a nice cloud chasing RDA. Massive air flow.

You may have to re-wet your wick every pull or 2 since you will burn a lot of ejuice.

I find stainless steel rather poor for cloud chasing, it is to conductive so does not generate the heat you need unless you use very high power. Plus the wraps needed to meet your resistance is unreal.

this site will help with coil building. It allows you to test build virtual coils before wasting any wire.

Here is a simple cloud build. 9 wraps of 24ga NiChrome on a 3.0mm id core, MutationX V4 RDA about 110W. Mod is Segelei Specturm KAOS 230W

To be honest, I think 8 wraps would be better for juice draw.

DAMN, G, how do stand that kind of heat at 110 watts? 50 watts makes me hunt the water glass with 12 wraps KA1 duals on my Eurus rda.

Wide open air flow. 1 slot per side under the coils, 9 holes per side in the chimney. Remember, it is all a balance.. power/ airflow / drip tip size/ chimney shape. Now on the other hand, I could set that exact same atomizer up to approximate a M2L rig. Smaller coil, less air, lower power, small drip tip. (you would want your airflow to be almost off)

I hear you. I've still got a ways to go before I get all that together. I wish you would make some more tutorial videos. I've watched the 4 you posted several times each, and can wrap a coil fairly well. Along with Steam Engine, I can get within .05 ohms of the resistance I want. I just can't get the flavor without the heat...yet.

Heat = cloud
Air = flavor
SO.. for more flavor, you want some heat and lower airflow and a smaller drip tip. So you collect more vapor and less air.
Clouds are the opposite, more heat to vaporize more juice, more air to cool the vape, larger drip tip so you can inhale faste

I may do one for wicking my IJOY Combo RDTA. Seems there is a lot of confusion.. some say wick to the bottom of the tank, others say only wick over the juice holes and stuff just a little cotton down in.

As for coils, im just going to buy the premade spools from fast tech. Its much easier than trying to clapton 5 strands of flat ribbon wire. Also cheaper than buying the coils from the vape shop.

Glad the videos helped. I wanted to make them as simple as possible and did very little editing. Like I said.. if this idiot can make a coil wire, any idiot can. lol. It's all patience and practice. I find, when starting out, making wire for 1 coil at a time much easier.

Cloud chasing for me is more about the VG ratio you use, coil type you go for, how much air you get in with the draw, length of draw

Some say build super low ohm, I dunno about that while it does help it makes it a bloody hot vape short sharp pulls on it only

I've managed through temp control before to chuck bigger clouds than most of my wattage only set ups by taking much longer draws without it being a nuclear reactor! A mod like the legendary G2 will certainly help although plenty of others out there as well (but it's one of the best for temp control for sure)

The biggest cloud I've ever got was from a single coil I ran on the Pharoah dripper tank and that's not really even a cloud chasers atty, but it was because of the massive coil I was able to mount in it ...so much so it was overwhelming lol

These days I do that sort of stuff now and again for fun much prefer a flavour and cloud balance

Agree though RDAs are the way to go for clouds :)

I've been vaping almost 2 years but I'm just now getting into rebuildables. I've got an rda and a Reload clone rta. I just put a pair of aliens in the Reload last night that I got from Ramo2u.

Here's my second ever pair of coils I wound and learned how by watching your video. They're nothing fancy, but I can only use one hand.

Super low ohm really only applies to mechanical mods, and this poses a safety issue. Better to build better coils at higher resistance. With regulated mods, higher resistance will allow you to use more wire for more surface area. Example.. 3 strand parallel 32ga stainless steel. Roughly 0.4 ohm vs 21 wraps of single strand... over 5 ohms.

Right now, I'm using 7 wraps of Kanthal on a 3.0 mm id core. (I removed 1 wrap from the coil in the pic I posted). This actually works a lot better due to better juice draw and faster ramp up.

Coil looks perfectly fine to me. You can play with the number of wraps to figure out what works best for you as well.

Walking across the street poses a safety issue. A lot depends on your definition of "super low"─and on whether you know as much as you think you know about battery safety, but I'll leave it here because I don't want to wake up the ohms nazi brigade once again... :D

Consider most recommended resistance for most batteries to be considered "safer" (not 100% safe) at around 0.25 ohm you can consider super sub ohm at anything below 0.20 ohm. 0.21 ohm being the CDR of most 20A batteries. The more you exceed this value by, the less "safe" the build gets. However, there is more to it than just ohms. Anyone who is comfortable building at lower resistance will already know all the related information, available from Moochs Blog and his battery rating and various tests.
Sure, walking across the street poses a safety issue, but walking across the highway, blindfolded, at 5pm poses more of a safety issue. So when crossing the street, you have to know enough not to be blindfolded or cross at 5pm.
Battery quality also has a lot to do with safety. Which is exactly why we recommend samsung, sony, lg and not bargain bin factory 2nd rewraps of unknown cells with misleading labels.

It doesn't matter what I know about battery safety. What matters is what YOU (the prospective mech user) knows about battery safety. Battery safety is a very serious matter, and making diminishing comments like Walking across the street poses a safety issue does nothing to reinforce the importance vaping with as little risk as possible.

Exactly what I do as a rule. Unless I am specifically building a competition build. However, that said, the quality of your build is more important than how low your resistance is. A good build that takes into consideration, ramp up time, watts, temp and heatflux, is better than just blindly building at risky resistance levels.

I actually CHAIN VAPE on my single 18650 battery mech mods at .1 ohm with a VTC5A knowing it's safer than walking across the street. Reason I know it's safer is because the VTC5A isn't even getting more than slightly warm, which I can verify by pulling it out and simply FEELING how warm it has become so recommending to stay above .2 ohms on a single battery mech = retarded ohms nazi award winner for sure. ;)

So much butthurt over the fact you couldn't do your homework properly about battery safety when all you basically had to do was listen to Mooch, and you couldn't even understand something as simple as "restrictive airflow on an atomizer can be achieved by adjusting air holes". lol... just lol

Does make the chatter look bit strange you normally see someone defending or going nuts at what seems like nobody ....that's how I know he's in a thread
