Full Disclosure:

Let’s get all the disclosures out of the way. This RDA was sent to me directly from Vandyvape specifically for the purposes of this review. This will not in any way, shape, or form cause me to give this RDA a favorable review or change my opinion in any way.

Some Background Info:

This mod was created by the Stefan Z and Tony B. Stefan Z is the guy who used to design tanks for Geekvape. He started Vandyvape and des his own thing now. Stefan and vandyvape have just been killing it lately and in my opinion they have yet to release a bad product.

Tony B is the host of The Vapor Trail Channel on Youtube. He has over 100k subs there and he always comes across as an honest all around decent guy. He is really into squonking and he designed the Pulse just for that. He wanted to develop a single coil, flavor RDA that could be run on most of the popular squonkers on the market today. So keep that mind while reading this review.

First Impression Out Of The Box:

Nice looking RDA, I like the size and the fact that this is a one lunger. This Vandyvape RDA comes with 3 drip tips as opposed to the normal 3 from Vandyvape. I love that Vandyvape always gives you multiple drip tips. Deck looks really interesting and unique. Can’t wait to coil and wick this one up.

What’s In The box:

* Pulse RDA
* 16mm wide bore Ultem drip tip
* 14mm wide bore delrin drip tip
* 510 drip tip adapter
* Pre installed squonking pin
* Traditional 510 pin
* Spare o'rings
* Spare deck screws
* Coil jig
* User manual (very well done)
3b70cfd8cc225aafc42b7c01c5dcd59a.jpg

From Top To Bottom:

This is a tiny RDA. It’s 22mm and I know Tony wanted to keep it small on purpose in order to accommodate the types of squonkers that are available right now. Both drip tips are nice and comfortable but I do prefer the ultem one. They are both Goon style and they fit nice and snug.

The top cap has a conical design to it. It does fit snug on the barrel and it is held in place by two strong o'rings. You get a satisfying click when you put the top cap in place. The airflow is two circles that line up with two circles on the barrel. The airflow is adjusted via the top cap and it slides around and adjusts very easily.
b1ad83b43e2408911626577a00a78941.jpg

When you take the top cap off the barrel has a cutout on top that kind of looks like a stretched out circle. Right above the airflow the top cap is kind of squared off when looking at it from the top view. The airflow itself is a inverted side mounted Kennedy style. That’s the best way I can describe it. You basically have two tubes angled downward from the side that rest really close to your coils. Very unique and well done. Impressive for sure.
644e0553763b32128b21145bcdc22738.jpg

While this RDA comes preinstalled with a squonking pin you do have the option of running it as a regular non squonking dripper. Vandyvape has included a traditional 510 in order for you to do that. The squonking pin has a 4mm hex key cutout for easy installation and removal. Of course Vandyvape does include a tri tool for this.
9de93bd4d5b23b896da829c63271b6e6.jpg

The Deck:

Pull off the barrel off and you are greeted with a gold plated single coil deck. Plenty of peek insulation with some really nice phillips head deck screws. There are two notches on the side of the deck that help you line up your coil so the airflow tubes hit is directly. The notches also serve another purpose, they lock down the barrel so when you pull off the top cap the barrel stays in place. Very simple yet ingenious in its form and function.
55fe49749187b26d724cfd3dc24ad7c1.jpg

There are two oval shaped juice wells that you lay your cotton in. They are not that deep but remember this is a squonker so there is no need for a super deep juice well. Because of the inverted Kennedy style side airflow you can over squonk on this thing and it will not leak. Any excess juice will just go back into the squonk bottle. Again, ingenious and simple. Another nice touch is the squonk hole is actually split so the juice is dispersed to each side of the RDA evenly.

Building And Wicking:

Postless decks can be a real pain to build on. Mainly because you really have to take your time trimming the leads of the coil in order to get the right height. Tony B and Stefan Z handled that problem as well. Simply use the Ultem drip tip included and measure you coil against the part of the drip that goes in your mouth, not the part that fits into the top cap. This will give you approximately 7mm long leads on each side of the coil which is the perfect length for phenomenal flavor on this RDA.

Once you loosen the phillips head deck screws it's very easy to place your coil and tighten down the leads. When everything is nice and secure you need to give your coil a little twist with the included coil jig and line up the ends of your coil with the notches that are cut out on the deck. This will place the ends of your coil at the corners of the juice well.

Line up the notches with the barrel, slide on the barrel and install the top and you are ready to vape. Just make sure the airflow tubes are lined up so they are hitting the side of the coil.

Vandyvape does include a 2.5mm jig so I am assuming that is the size coil they recommend for this RDA. I tried 2mm, 2.5mm, and 3mm coils. I prefer the the 3mm coils for flavor.

But Deuces, How Does She Vape:

I’ll tell you what, for a single coil RDA this thing rips. I get unbelievable cloudage from it. So much so that sometimes I find it hard to believe it's a one lunger. Flavor is great with both air holes open but shut one down and the flavor definitely intensifies. You will sacrifice some clouds but the trade off for flavor is worth it in my opinion.

Right now I have a single Juggernaut Kanthal coil in the Pulse. I’m ohming out at .3 at 58 watts. I get awesome flavor and superb clouds. I really like the airflow on both settings and find myself switching back and forth a lot. Either way you run it the airflow is super smooth.

Conclusion:

If you are a squonker this is a must purchase. Vandyvape has somehow squeezed the best of both worlds into a little squonking RDA. It has clouds and flavor without really compromising one or the other. What can I say Vandyvape has definitely done it again. This is a Homerun. DeucesJack approved? Hell yeah! If you squonk just go get one. Even if you don’t squonk and you just like single coil RDA’s, go get one.

If you found this review helpful please feel free to leave a comment, give it a like, and give me a follow. If you are a Vendor and would like a DeucesJack Review please PM me on this forum.

Pros and Cons:

A note about Pros and Cons. These are my Pros and Cons. They are very subjective. What may be a pro to me could be a con to you and vice versa.

Pros:

* Single coil
* Squonking pin preinstalled
* Flavor
* Clouds
* Smooth airflow
* 2 drip tips
* Delrin drip tip doubles as a lead measure
* Machined well
* Innovative airflow
* Can be run as a traditional RDA
* Very hard to over drip
* Squonk hole is split for even juice disbursement
* Coil jig included

Cons:

* Size
* Single coil

***Note*** I had a really tough time finding cons for this RDA. Maybe some people would have preferred a 24mm RDA so I listed size. Maybe some people would have liked a dual coil setup so I listed single coil. In reality this RDA does exactly what it was made to do in the context it was created in.

Specs:

* A Tony B.'s Project
* 22mm Diameter
* Superior Stainless Steel Construction
* Innovative Postless, Dual Terminal Design
* PEEK-Insulated Positive Terminal Post
* Negative Terminal Post
* Single Coil Configuration
* Side-Mounted Kennedy-Style Airflow
* Dual Slotted Side Air Slots
* Quad Airflow Tubes Inside Chamber
* 14mm Wide Delrin Wide Bore Drip Tip
* 510 Drip Tip Adapter
* Innovative Squonk Pin Setup
* Gold-Plated 510 Contact Pin

Great review Jack was watching this one when I saw a vid from Tony B demonstrating the early concept version....wonder how it stacks up against the Hadaly for flavour? that really is the king ding a ling of single coil squonk attys for many out there including me ....will see how I get on with the kylin first I think then make the call on this one
I know strange and all that (apples and oranges) also got to give the icon another go something off with it first time round could have been residue machine oil in it or something

Don't have a Hadaly.... yet but this Pulse with one air hole open is a flavor machine.

No, not at all. Which drip tip are you using? I'm using the ultem.

I was initially using the ultem but switched it out for a taller acrylic one. Still getting too hot. Interestingly, both my friend and I both purchased the pulse however he is not experiencing this issue - and he's a monster chain vaper.

Also, thanks for the review btw

Np, my pleasure. Maybe your running a really hot build in it. Remember it's only a one lunger and not meant to run super hot builds. Right now I'm running mine with a 3.5 mm ID coil ohming out at .33 at 40 watts. For the record that's pretty much the largest build I can fit in there.

Thanks for the prompt replies. The build I am using is a 2.5 mm ID, 0.44 ohm build at 44 watts. I think it may be due to coil height. I am going to try repositioning it. Will report back after

Use the drip tip trick I mentioned in the review. That's the perfect height for the coil. That build sounds fine. I hope you figure it out.

I was wondering if, for being a single coil rda, which "exotic" coils could be use in order to maximize flavor.
Any hints? Photos, maybe... ;-)

You can use any coil in it. I just wouldn't build too low because remember it's made to be run on today's squonkers. Most of which are single battery mechanical mods. I'd just keep that in mind when building for it.

I will use it on Hcigar VT 75.
Guess I will stick with simple claptons, maybe around 0.5ohms...
Let's see how it goes, then!
Tks for the reply, Deuces!

Np man. Its a labor of love. I am really suprised at the flavor and clouds this little RDA puts out. I really hope Tony and Vandyvape do the same exact atomizer in a 24mm or 25mm version.

Yeah they are cool. It's like an inverted Kennedy style setup. Really hard to get it to leak because the tubes are pointed downward. Kind of simple yet ingenious. Love products like that.

It's the same idea as the hadlay but more pronounced.I'm curious to see if having the air hit the coils so closely has much of an effect.

Yeah man, I don't have a Hadaly. I really gotta get one. Never heard a bad word about that atty. I like single coil setups I just never got around to getting one.

Got one, love it.

The vape's a bit cold for my taste, and the flavor a bit muted compared to smaller chamber RDAs I own, but it performs like a champ for a singler coiler. It's also one of the easiest and most forgiving RDAs I've tried for making a series build that works well and without any fuss.

I hope they's gonna come up with a 24mm version too. Still, I'm gonna get me another one tomorrow :)

Great review. Can someone to me compare this 22 vs 24 pulse. I see benefit of dual coil and posible single with 24 but your experience and fact I'll use it without squonk pin. Which one helds more drops.

You said that the squonk pin comes preinstalled. I do not own a squonker. Do I need to switch out the pin before using this in a regular regulated mod?

I'm interested in squonking, but I want a dual 18650 regulated squonker not a mech mod. Those are hard to find and expensive.

Yes you do need to remove the squonking pin to run it on a regular mod otherwise it can get really messy. It's easy and all the tools are provided.

Anyone having a hard time removing the buttom cap?Im having a hard time removing it if the atty is cold..

Update.. change the o-ring solve the problem,
