No lie. My Aliens have become back-up mods. Poor lil guys.

Ya, my RX 2/3 is used when I'm on the run and need longer battery life (in 3 Battery mode) and my Snow Wolf I use at work because I have a silicon Sleeve for it so it doesn't get too hammered. If I had a Silicon Sleeve for the Hohm Wrecker tho,, it would probably go to work with me everyday as well.

I can't get into those mods...regardless of how good the board may or may not be, aesthetically they turn me off.

I felt the same way when I ordered mine. It was on sale and The only colors that they had were Blue and Red and I opted for the Red. I would have bought the Black or the Silver one normally and even they were a bit louder than I liked aesthetically, but the price and the rep it had were too good to not get one! When I received the Red one,, I thought I had received the Orange one in error and I was pretty upset, but the box itself has been so good that I don't care anymore and I've actually grown quite fond of even the color of it based on its performance LOL! Give it a chance and I promise you that you'll see what the hype is on it, regardless if you like the look of it or not.

I have the RX2/3, but am currently not using it. My RX300 with the way that I vape if I don't hold back just a little it can deplete all 8 of my VTC5A batteries long before the day is over... now starting to think I should have went for the Purge Executioner for 940 Euros when I still had the chance. :D

So waiting for my order of 36 and 38GA and Ribbon, got Bored and just tried techniques with funny combinations...

Ever wondered how a Four Core staggered Looks like using 29GA for The Cores and 32 for the wraps?
28611845sh.jpg

BEEFY Coil and what a Pita to wrap.
3mmID @ 0.12 Ohms but Great Violent Vape!

Another one... 7 pieces 30GA with 32 wrap hammered the Heck out of it with a 3 Lbs Hammer to punish it to a CAT Track
28611846ho.jpg

6 wraps 3mm Clocks out @ 0.09 Ohms Dual.

Never thought These builds where usable but currently running the cats in my Troll V2 and they are Vaping GREAT

Hi guys. I had some 28ga kanthal laying around. I wanted to start using it up, so I bought some 32ga kanthal and did some twisted core claptons. Haven't vaped them yet, but they turned out ok.

First build - triple twisted 28g core and 32g wrap.

Second build - double twisted 28g core and 32g wrap.

Let me know what you think!

Very nice. If you twist the cores a bit more you can get a tight staircase look to them. Or a little less will give a smooth wave like pattern. Either way they should treat you very nice and give a good vape.

Well since I am astonished by the skills and okay I am a new member but I follow this thread since weeks and read every of the 280+ pages of this thread I have to questions to the "Masters of Coilcrafting" :)

1. when i do a Framed staple Alien with 8ply 0.3-0.1 ribbon, 29GA Frames and 36GA wrap, what GA should i take for the decore? I calculated that one third of my unwrapped wire would be around 0.46mm so i Took 24GA for my decore (around 0.51mm) but i am not that pleased with the result since the waves of the Alien wrap seem pretty "flat" compared to my regular 3 Core Aliens.

2. attempted some Metal Snake spine coils. I did a decore of 36GA wrapped on 22 GA, filled it with a strand of 29GA, folded it in half and wrapped the spaces with 36 GA again. Then i carefully flattened it with toothless pliers on the whole length. And what Could i say, everything Looks neat and Perfect since i Took my Time.
But i have NO IDEA how to Bend the sides to one or two directions.
I heard raymo explain earlier to run it through toothless pliers, but everytime i try this i mess everything up. These coils seem pretty exotic since there a Barely any Tutorials or explanations around the Web. Am i Doing something wrong or is there a Special technique?
These coils Are on my to do to Master and it is very Frustrating to fail at the Last step.

Thanks for any suggestions!

OK for snake spines I use a larger frame like 27g and bigger, flatten it with a HAMMER (important) and then use a pair of round nosed pliers and toothless pliers to push about 1/8" of fins at a time. That's the only way to get them to lay down against the next and not stick out. I'd recommend hammering them because I've tried other methods and ended up pushing the wrap down in spots.

As for any alien your decore should be roughly 3x smaller than your core width. I use a bigger decore than necessary to make the swoops more exaggerated.

Thank you Whiteowl!
Then I'll give the snake spines a try with my rounded jewelry Hammer

By the way These are the fraliens i mentioned above
28617488oc.jpg

As you can see they are far from being Perfect it was a First try some Time ago... with a small Lack of Patience And Not satisfied with the swoops. Compared to the Framed staples they offer a slightly smoother Vape.

Since i got Routine making staples i want to give them another try with Perfect Wraps.

Get the alien started and just open the drill up. Stretch so you need just a bit of tension stay just in front of the wrap and hold your decore about 3 or 4" from the core.

To answer your first question I would use 26g for the decore on an 8 ply

Thanks for your answer! So would you do this on a regular staple or Framed staple?
Because the Thinner the decore wire the more you Need to Stretch and so the Waves/swoops will become more flat. So 8plys would be 0.8mm wide plus two 0.3 Frames would be 1.4 mm, divided with 3 ist would be Quit ecact 0.46mm or 25 GA. I thought 0.04mm above with 24GA would be better than 0.06mm less with 26GA.

@whiteowl:
Thank you. What do you ecactly mean By "Open the drill up"?

I think it means to let it loose and run the drill at full-speed.

I would use 26g for 8x.3mm/2x28g but I'm sure it'll work just fine with the 29g frames as well. I've never made em without frames. If you assemble the cores first you can just find a wire gauge by figuring out which wire x3 is the same width and use that for your decore. But for that exact core I would use 26g. The decore wire can be a little bigger than exactly 3x, like whiteowl said, it'll fit just fine but you'll get a nicer "wave" in the finished product. I always go one size higher for that very reason

Took me a few weeks to really get the alien technique down, but they're looking pretty shmexy now, if I do say so myself. These are SS 316L framed stapled aliens. 2x 28ga frames, 4x .3mm staples, and 36ga wrap at 3mm ID.

Any tips on how to get that first wrap straight? I'm using a vice to hold the leg, then wrapping around a screwdriver, and pulling it tight after each wrap with nylon-tipped pliers. The first wrap always seems to come out at a weird angle, though.

So after watching this thread for a while... I figured I'd give it a shot at making some simple coils...I normally buy coils from AVS... and bought some from Phil months ago that I am still rocking.

I already had drills, clamps etc. since I am in construction by trade (HVAC) and had some 24/26/28 SS316L and for some reason a spool of 36g 316L I found in my drawer...probably ordered that long ago and mis-clicked thinking it was 26 lol

Anyway, I made these...

upload_2017-3-17_16-49-34.png

Haven't slapped them in anything, 24.2/36 (Assuming they are .166 or so says S.E.) and being it was purely for practice, but I ended up making about 2ft of it first go.

Well now its another rabbit hole I jumped into but thoroughly enjoy, I also ordered a bunch of 26/28/36 N80 and SS316L...and will head over to WallyMart later to pick up some spool tamers.

I think I might try Aliens pretty quick, but in short sections <1ft, Assuming the clapton for Aliens is WAY less forgiving than fused, being I can easily back up slightly with fused and with Aliens you're kinda eff'd at that point lol

Option 1 - wrap extra wrap then take first wrap off
Option 2 - unlock from vice - turn coil around - lock other leg in vice - unwrap the first wrap (now last wrap) then re-wrap it
Option 3 - keep fucking with it once its mounted until it looks ok

My first SS TC build all ss claptons
26g cores and 36 or 38 outer wrap if I don't remember wrong:p

I put it in my mutation x v4 and I'm using a competition glass topcap. The vapor production is ridiculous and the flavor is good (not the greatest but better than my previous builds).

Made some triple staggered claptons with 28g K and 36g ni80 wrapped around a 2.5mm, 6 wraps. Ohms out at a .27 which is a little higher than I wanted, so i pulled it out and removed a wrap. After seeing how other people clean their coils with soapy water before firing for better color, I started doing that myself and having great results. I use Lighting Vapes wire and the ni80 has never looked better. Sorry for going picture crazy! I enjoy the photos as much as the coils0317172120a_HDR_20170318183031981.jpg 0317172133_HDR_20170318182956251.jpg 0317172230a_HDR_20170318183126502.jpg 0317172140_HDR_20170318183102607.jpg pixlr_20170318151924920_20170318182932883.jpg

The wrecker came in today. It had a software issue that pissed me off for a couple of hours. It was missing a ton of stuff like all the TC stuff and everything in the aim menu, I couldn't even get the update software to recognize it at first. I finally tricked the mod and software to work. Now that it's working I am happy and it is great. Best TC vape I have ever had the pleasure of puffing. So many options to play with.

Damn! You guys must not use your phone as a camera because the quality of some of the pics are almost as impressive as the builds!
As I was taught by the masters on here, a macro lens and good lighting will make your photos look like National Geographic stuff. I found a macro that has a 12X zoom lens and a screw on 24X lens. That 24X can take a picture of a flys balls. And my phone actually sucks, the lens makes all the difference. Another good idea is to check on ebay or amazon and look for a cheap light box. Mine is made of thin pvc, and it folds up flat for easy storage. Its about 12" square when fully assembled, comes with a nice LED light bar, and two color backdrops (black and white). The light box made my pics way better than i imagined and it was only like $6 with free shipping. The last thing I use to make things better was a small tripod to hold my phone. Any little shake of your hand will ruin your pics. Picked on of those up for around $8 shipped. Vaping Biker has a video showing how to take great coil pics and what to use, but you can buy whatever brand you want.

Got a link to said macro?
I'd like more zoom when I start stacking.

I'm with raymo on photography. You can't beat the free out door lighting. Even with a light box and several 5k bulbs.

For a long time i just used a cardboard box, i cut the back, top, and sides out and covered them all with a sheet of printer paper. Especially if you're shooting outdoors diffusing the light is a must, unless it's heavily overcast. I have since upgraded, but that homemade lightbox changed everything for me. You can also just drape a sheet of printer paper or even a wet paper towel over your build deck to knock the whites down and even out the lighting, indoors or outdoors. A macro lens is a good component, but just one of many

Yep heres the link for the macro lens.
Yea you're right about the outdoor light it is the best for sure. The light box works good for me cause I'm usually working when theres light outside so my only time for building and photos is at night. Now that the days are getting longer I should be able to get some good sunset evening pics

All Taken with a PHone (Galaxy S6 + Zomei 37mm Macro Clip On)

Lighting, Focus Stacking and a Steady hand will make even a shitty phone take shots like a DSLR. Before the Galaxy S6 I used a Galaxy S2 and S3 for all my shots, some people actually thought I was using DSLR this whole time...but it was just a phone.
