Best New Aerotanks by Function not Appearance

I regard my new-version Aerotanks as providing the best bottom-coil vaping experience in my collection. (Haters may stop reading here.) There are several reasons why I personally like them so much, but one main reason we fans will likely agree on—no surprise—is air flow, particularly unrestricted air flow. I always keep mine full open, and I suspect many of you do too. That said, having owned or tried all four (Mini, V2, Mega and Giant) and after a good bit of experience with them, I have come to the conclusion that only two of the four are worth buying.

What all Aerotanks have in common is their coil assemblies, whether the new closed type (which I prefer) or the old open type. The new Kangertech coil assemblies all have a 2 mm ID air passage, regardless of coil resistance. That common diameter sets what the maximum effective air flow can be. (Unless you want to drill yours out and rebuild.) All Kangertech air flow valves open to a greater diameter than that, either slightly more or much more as with the Giant, but the effective maximum air flow will be limited by the coil assembly ID. That's the big equalizer of all the Aerotanks. Now the obvious and not-so-obvious functional differences.

Mini: Obviously, at 14 mm OD, 28 grams with glass, and ~1.2 ml tank capacity (more if you use the Q-tip method for filling), the best candidate for stealth vaping. (I use it on a modified Gripper and it fits in the palm of my hand with only the drip tip sticking up.) Vapor generation is the same as all the other Aerotanks with the same coil resistance, but the vapor temperature tends to range more, from cool to start to increasingly warm as you hit it more. With the Mini's smaller size and lower metal mass, the heat sink effect is the lowest among the Aerotanks, so the vapor is less consistently cool.

V2: At 18 mm OD, 60 grams with glass, and ~2.2 ml capacity (w/o the Q-tip method), it weighs twice as much as the Mini and provides a more consistently cool vapor. More metal mass, greater heat sink effect. Otherwise the same vaping experience.

Mega: At 22 mm OD, 62 grams with glass, and ~3.5 ml capacity (w/o the Q-tip method), it weighs practically the same as the V2. No surprise then that the vaping experience is the same. Close your eyes and you won't be able to detect any functional difference, except of course that you will be able to enjoy vaping longer before refilling.

Giant: At 30 mm OD, ~100 grams with glass, and ~4.2 ml capacity (w/o the Q-tip method), it weighs much more (too much IMO) than the Mega for less than 1 ml more capacity. Though the air valve has all those holes (kinda wish all the Aerotanks were based on this valve style) the maximum air flow is no more than the others and the draw no easier. I suppose if you vape like a vacuum cleaner at high currents it will stay cooler longer, but that's way over my use level.

Conclusion: From the point of view of function, the Mini and the Mega are the ones to get. I like all of them, but those two really distinguish themselves, one for stealth and the other for capacity. The tallest of the four is the V2, ~7-8 mm taller than the Mini and Mega, and a full 17 mm taller than the fat and squat Giant. That could amount to a functional difference for some rigs. Otherwise, to my mind, the rest is appearance, whatever looks best on your battery or mod.

I agree with your assessment fully.

The Aerotank Mega is one of my everyday, go to vapes. I'm sitting here vaping it side by side with full size nautilus, with the new BVC coils. Although the Nautilus with it's new coils is a VERY nice Vape, and takes higher wattage (the nautilus is on a Vamo V5, and the Aerotank Mega is on one of my monster 2600 twists); I enjoy the more saturated, cooler Vape from the Aerotank just a bit more.

That being said; I've noticed that different flavor juices taste better on either the Nautilus, or the Aerotech mega, and when swapped to the opposite tank don't taste as good.

In summary both tanks have their place in my arsenal :)

Good write up on the tanks. I have tried them all and would go with V2 as the best in my experience. It is the perfect size and 2.2 ml meets my needs. I got the included steel tank as part of the kit and it works as a great barrier in case you drop it on the ground. Overall, very impressed with the V2 and look forward to trying out the Turbo coming in the next few weeks. I recommend their tanks to anyone because they have served me well and the coils are interchangeable making it easy to swap out with other tanks. If you're on a tight budget you can buy the Protank 3 and purchase a V2 or V3 valve for only $5 and you have a fully functional airflow tank. I stand by Kanger, good clearos.

I appreciate your comparison, BK. Been temped by the BVC coil design, thinking you might get the benefits of cartos, which can indeed taste fantastic, without the obvious limitations. Haven't pulled the trigger yet however. Now I see there's a new 14mm Aspire K1 BVC coming out that could give the Aerotank Mini some competition. Further temptation, but I'm still not ready

Does your Nautilus/BVC draw as easy as your Aerotank Mega?

Thanks, Dissonance. Good points. Re budget, I have to say my Mini and Mega clones from Fasttech turned out to be every bit as well crafted as my authentic V2 kit, much to my surprise, and they are ridiculously inexpensive for what you get. Gotta stick with authentic coils though. That's what makes them all good. ;)

I'd say they draw about the same; that said, I'd wait for the aspire K1; as the BVC for the BDC (which the K1 uses) is actually superior to the BVC in the nautilus IMO.

That said, they are both great. I just did a side by side comparison of all 4 aspire coil styles (BDC, BVC for the BDC, and both the aspire nautilus BDC, and BVC) respectively. I'll be posting it to YouTube tomorrow.

Glad you had good luck with yours. I personally can't stand Fasttech bought a Vision Spinner from them and an MVP and both were defective, then purchased a Nemesis and that too was garbage. Had to wait 3.5 weeks just to get them, so I threw in the towel. I agree stick with the authentic coils, that is an absolute must. I don't really deal much with mechanicals anymore so all my regulated devices are 100% authentic. Price on gear can be very good if you know where to look. I like Kanger for tanks...

I am very curious as to how the new BVC coils for the BDC clearomizers will perform. Is there a structural difference between the Nautilus BVC vs the K1? I would like to try it out on my Aspire Vivi tank and see how it works, unless they are solely for the K1.

Both are good tanks the coils can use much improvement IMO. I tried rebuilding the Aspire coils and they were a major headache, Kanger are easier, at least the old coils. If you have the time to invest than it's worth it I just want to load and go. Best of luck

They WILL work in your Vivi no problem; as they share an identical external footprint with the old BDC coils. Get on my YouTube channel, subscribe, and watch my initial impression of them. I will have my follow up review up tomorrow; where I'll be vaping the nautilus BDC, and BVC coils, as well as the old Vivi style BDC coils, and their new BVC equivelant replacements.

To be blunt, I enjoy the flavor of the BDC replacement BVC coils MORE than the Nautilus BVC.. Sounds crazy, but I'm totally serious

Thanks man. If they will work than I will have to try them out as soon as they're released. If they will work in the Vivi than I'm guessing they will work with any Aspire BDC which will be a plus. Glad you enjoy the flavor more that's reassuring. I'll buy them exclusively if they perform better than my present BDC coils. Aspire rushed too fast with the Nautilus coils which is why so many people are having problems. They have been alright for me, but I still like the BDC's more than the Nautilus BVC.

The Quad coil Kanger will kill the Aspire. Save money and get the new Genitanks, it's just an Aero made from Brass and chromed. That's the direction I went except I put the 20 watt capable v2 double coils in the Davide mega. You can add your own Aero base or buy the 2014 factory version with an air mix base.
The actual fluid dynamics is throttling the airflow to less than equal displacement creates a vaccum drawing MORE fluid into the coil chamber. In that both ceramic mat BVC and now larger ported V2 benefit with higher wattage and modest pressure drawing the vape. I dont need to or want to toke on my vape or blow a lung up! lol

Brad has em now.

I really do enjoy the flavor, and flavor is what I'm all about honestly. I like a warm, thick Vape, but fllaaaavor is my top priority.

If you want a little tip to make your current BDC coils perform better; simply take a pin from one of your nautilus coils, and install it in your BDC coils. Makes a BIG difference in the flow, and vapor production. That's what I did to bide my time with them until I got the BVC replacements from Brad;)

I got a weird taste when I tapped 15watts on the V2 coils; which doesn't steer me from them, because I believe they are more efficient; hence not needing that type of wattage to perform above par. I find their sweet spot to be between 9-12 watts depending on the juice..

Your thoughts?

The BDC work great, no problems. The Nauti BVC's are the ones that I was referring to that could be a lot better. I haven't had the bad luck that so many others are having but still they could have been made much better. Mine last about a week compared to my Kanger's that usually pull well for 2 weeks, love the Kanger:) Out of all the coils I've tried oddly enough the SMOK have performed the best. Now I'm experimenting with the Eleaf's, will let you know how they perform in the next few weeks. So far VERY GOOD after a week, not noticing any decrease in performance.

The new BVC's may restore my hope with Aspire. Will be getting soon.

@ButtKickers how about that bvc construction? Ceramic mat over coil! They sell ceramic for Genesis style but it breaks easy. That's about the cleanest vape material known to man.
I like the bvc coils a lot. I'm starting to think that the downfall of the Nautilus atomizers is too much airflow in the wrong places. I believe the chimney might be too large, and although it kicks a big cloud; the flavor doesn't condense like it does in the kanger tanks, and the davides. This is why I think I'm getting better flavor out of the Davide utilizing the BVC coils than I am Aspires own tanks!

I have a feeling their new K1 glassomizer may change that however. We will see

Yes, the SMOK coils produce a fine vape when they're fresh, but after using a bunch of them (1.8 ohms) I find they consistently crap out way too fast. Less than a week and they're a gurgling mess. Sometime only a few days. So I return to the Kangers.

What's the draw like on the Eleafs? If it's tight I wouldn't be interested. Got plenty of tasty tight-draw rigs. However, I'm willing to try any compatible coil with a 2mm dia. air passage, which is what new Kangers have, or for that matter what Kayfun has.

Really sorry you had that experience my SMOK have been quite consistent. I vape at a higher ohm but have vaped with the 1.8 and never died out quick. I use them in my Trophy Tank V2 and they last on average 1.5 weeks sometimes longer. The Eleafs are phenomenal thus far, I'm vaping on it right at this very second. The draw is very good not tight at all and not too airy, it's just right. Coils are "push in" so no screwing into the base involved. For the price and performance they should be priced much higher.

Hmmm. Maybe I should try my leftover SMOK coils in a different tank. Been using GBC, RBC and PBC. Or maybe it's because I use high PG juice. Still, I find the draw tight for lung hits and that's a deal breaker.

You're getting me interested in the Eleafs though.

Glad to help. If a product is crap in my experience I would never recommend it, that is my policy. Trend and popularity means nothing to me personally, it's all about performance, cost, production and accessibility, the rest is moot. The Eleaf's thus far are astonishing, if I would have known about them sooner I would have let others know ASAP so they could get them too. They missed my radar. I just vaped back to back with my Nautilus and I get better results from a $10 tank vs $35 Nautilus. I recommend them 100% they may just turn out to be my go to Clearo.Try your SMOK coils in the GBC that's an awesome tank, another super cheap tank that performs great. The other thing to keep in mind is that some coils are not going to be great because they are mass produced. I have ordered packs where the coils would not classified as DOA but they STILL were sub par in comparison with other coils within the same pack, that's out of our control. Other packs I received ALL the coils worked great, it's a hit or miss. Very impressed with the SMOK. The juice you use will make a difference, high pg would not really matter since it's very thin. Greater vg would matter due to high viscosity, the color of the juice also matters, darker juice gunks up coils at a more rapid pace. I like pg because I need the flavor and throat hit, could care less about clouds. I also like vg and after testing both I just change the coils more frequently with vg, nonetheless at a mere $1.60 per coil I'm not going to cry, that's a good deal. Everyone has choices. I completely agree with the draw issue, not a fan of tanks with a tight draw. This is a structural design flaw and defeats the purpose of getting a quality vape. Try the coils in different tank and make sure they are authentic. Will have word where to get Eleafs in about two weeks when friend gets back in town. Cheers!

There are new bvc replacement coils for bdc tanks.

Yes, I'm running one in my davide BDC :)

These bvc coils are made specifically for bdc tank fitment

Oh I got that. I knew that they were for the Aspire's just wasn't sure if they fit the Davide as well. I know the old BDC worked but these are entirely new coils, so that's what I wanted to clarify. Appreciate it:)

What is on the vape menu for today?

Well, I smoked for 30 years, and I've been vaping for less than six months; BUT I chain Vape all day, so 6 is all I really need. I started at 18mg, and it takes 1-2 days to adjust everytime I step down.

I'll never ditch nic completely though. I may go down to 3 nic, and stay there? Time will tell. I AM buying some 0 nic soon though; for doing reviews, and those times that I just want to chain Vape for hrs on end literally lol

Same here thirty year habit and all those years down the drain feeding my body and soul deadly toxins. When you reach a year free from smokes you start to notice significant difference in overall health, breathe easier and taste sensation returns to normal. I tried the 6 and 0 and it didn't work out I need the higher nicotine. The flavors however were more pronounced due to the lower nicotine. I didn't get much of a throat hit and that's very important to me. Good luck I hope you can go down to 3mg, if it works and meets your needs that's really all that matters.

Just my 2c...I really like my big Nautilus because it holds 5ml of juice but the stock bdc coil couldn't take high power. Anything above 8 or 9 watts gave burnt hits. So I swapped the head for a bvc out of a mini Naut and BAM! 15 watts no problems. Big vape and big flavor. How long the bvc will last in the the big tank, I don't know yet, we'll see.

Gotta be honest with you, I feel like I never smoked already! I'm not kidding!

Within 2 months I had hacked all the black/yellow crap from my lungs, and was back to running 5 miles, and mountain biking extended trips up to 15+ miles.

I always kept my excercise routine up for the most part, and didn't see a decrease in lung function til the past few years. My mother (who's in her early sixties; I'm 43) has smoked for 50 years? started vaping with me, she's back on her bike too, and says she feels my age again. She never weezed or anything, but her asthma was returning; which is now all but gone.

We seem to have been lucky honestly, BUT I believe I was getting some precancerous growth in the back of my mouth, and throat. It scared the hell out of me, but it's now gone too.

If I feel even better than I do now as time progresses; I'll be a happy man indeed! I feel like I'm 25 again! :)

Tell you what brother; the new BVC coils have certainly put my Nautilus back into my daily rotation. I liked it for a bit with the old coils, until I got my aerotank mega. After that it started to collect dust until I popped the bvc head in.

I like the mega and the giant aerotanks, especially the low ohm coils, but have to say that a nautilus with a bvc is my daily carry...

That's great to hear. Your only six months into vaping the longer you go the better you'll feel, give yourself time and take it slow one day at a time. Keep your exercise regimen steady, eat lots of fruits and veggies (raid the Farmers Markets) and do meditation daily. Keeping the body, mind and soul on track is very important and integrated perfectly with vaping. Good news about your mom, she can enjoy her life now and have better health.

Cheers!

I appreciate your comments, Dissonance. My point about high PG (100% for me) is that it could be more prone to flooding with silica wick because of its thinness, hence my gurgling problem with SMOK coils. Just a speculation though, and a moot point for me at this point. I don't think I'll spend much more time on the SMOK coils, because ultimately they have a tighter draw than I'm looking for.

If the Eleafs draw easy I'm interested in trying them on your recommendation. How would you compare the draw of Eleaf and Aerotank Mini? That's the operative comparison for me.

BTW, Eleafs are in stock and cheap here: http://www.evape.us/eleaf-bcc-gt/

I grow all my own organic veggies, and eat only locally produced meats, from butchers/farmers that I trust. Been doing that for a few years (I'm kinda a foodie lol)

Mom actually showed me the way with organic gardening a few years ago, you and I are on the same page :)

Yes, thank you I'm familiar with the company. I have done business with them in the past and highly recommend them. I think my friend may have purchased them there but not entirely certain. They always have reasonable prices/solid vendor. I will do a complete review for them on this site as soon as I find the time, but you can go ahead and order from that site in full confidence, no problem. Good juice as well. I understand your concern with the PG and silica wick speculation but as mentioned I haven't had any problems whatsoever. I think the issue may be with the coils you purchased because I just tested my SMOK coils for you on (four different tanks) and didn't have any gurgling at all. With regard to the Eleaf vs Mini comparison I get a smooth draw out of both. The flavor is more pronounced in the Eleaf and the coils IMO are engineered better and more firmly grounded to the base. I also think the drip tip (mouth piece) on the Eleaf is excellent giving me more draw on inhale/lung hit. For the price they are selling them it's a no brainer, go and get yourself one you'll be glad you did.

P.S. I tried their Cinnamon Roll and Razzleberry juice and can confidently recommend them to you, taste like the real thing. No artificial crap...
Enjoy your new toy. Let me know how you like it. All the best....:)

You could be my younger brother. We share many of the same values and principles. It's nice to know others who are socially and environmentally conscious, that's always been important to me. Greed and materialistic obsession is the worst poison, just look at big tobacco corporations, they are living their dream, killing off people one minute at a time. I think I might adopt you, could always use another younger brother. Just bring a smile, your mod, and lots of organic veggies. Damn it you're making me hungry now. We'll party it up:) I'm getting closer to my vegetarian goal, come 2015 I'm in:D

You may have just convinced me to pick up an Aero Tank Mega when I get a new mod. I like the idea of having a more consistent vape than the Mini I have now has. :)

You won't notice much, if any difference between the Aerotank Mini, and Awrotank Mega as far as the Vape. I will say the Mega looks damn sexy on a 22mm mech mod though lol
